ππ₯ CQ WW DX CW 2025: A Historic Weekend for Team SZ1A π₯π
What a contest. What a team. What a year. History was made!
Our claimed score is in, the photos are out, and the memories are still fresh. This CQ WW CW was a special one for SZ1A.
Worldwide activity was incredible. The top operators delivered unbelievable numbers. The standout historic performance came from EF8R with N6MJ who won this yearβs contest and shattered the all time single operator world record with more than twelve thousand QSOs. Many already describe it as a new unbreakable record. He also held an extraordinary average of 265 QSOs per hour.
Following closely was CQ9A with KL9A who also broke the previous world record, with a similar and very impressive QSO hourly rate. 5J1DX with E77DX followed with a powerful 192 QSOs per hour, while V47T with N2NT reached 211 QSOs per hour and CR6K with CT1ILT achieved 217 QSOs per hour.
CW5W with N5ZO logged 4115 QSOs on 10m alone, and V26K with AA3B reached 9178 QSOs with only 100 watts. All delivered historic and spectacular performances that pushed the limits of what is possible in CQ WW CW.
The battle of titans on the live online scoreboard kept all of us glued to the screen. It was full of suspense and excitement and truly inspiring to watch.
Propagation kept everyone alert. High band openings were limited but very strong when they happened. Rates spiked fast and created windows that we had to take full advantage of.
On the low bands the story was even better. Conditions on 80m and 160m were longer, richer, and full of surprises. Real DX returned to the low bands this year and our numbers on 80m improved noticeably. The new vertical antenna helped and the band rewarded us with more activity from NA, AS, and even OC.
Our operators pushed hard and delivered great moments. Our peak average rate reached an impressive 477 QSOs per hour on the first day. At our slowest moment we made only 27 QSOs in one hour after two blackouts from the stormy weather, one of those unpredictable slow lows where Murphy has to strike. That is the rhythm of CQ WW. Fast highs, slow lows, and the full contest experience in between.
π A huge congratulations to our new CW operators SV1PMQ, SV1SYM, SV8SXF, and SV8SXV
You joined the world of CW recently through the CW Academy and you stepped straight into the biggest CW contest of the year. This is a real achievement and we are very proud of you. Well done for your constant training and preparation, it showed, and we can't wait to have you all back in the next one.
A special acknowledgment to Manos SV1DAY who introduced the CW Academy to our community and helped create this new wave of CW operators. Bravo Manos.
π A massive thank you to our Team Leader, Vasilis SV1DPJ
He prepared, organized, and coordinated every detail. His initiative and effort was crucial to our success. Thank you Vasilis for your dedication and your leadership. It has made a real difference for the team and it shows. On behalf of all of us, thank you and keep it up.
π²β€οΈ A heartfelt thank you to our support crew
The station was prepared with care in the days before the contest, with several members contributing to the setup and readiness of the shack. A warm thank you to SV1CQK, SV1RLC, and SV1RRX for ensuring that everything was organized and spotless ahead of time, arranging a full cleaning crew, and decorating the station with Christmas spirit.
π A very special thank you to SV1CQK and SV1CQG
During the weekend our President SV1CQK and Kostas SV1CQG carried the main load. They cooked, washed dishes, cleaned, handled logistics, kept morale high, and ensured that more than fifteen people were fed and taken care of for three full days. Their contribution was huge and deeply appreciated. They are the silent heroes behind the radios.
π
And yes, we even got a visit from Santa
He brought gifts for the station, wished us good luck, and delivered the full Christmas spirit. More on his presents in a future post.
π€ Thank you to everyone who visited
