Cube Art Editions, an independent, small publishing house based in Athens, founded by Eleni Saroglou in 2001, is concentrating in the production of artists’ books, art catalogues, monographies, essays, theory, notebooks with silkscreen covers by various artists and diaries designed by artistic designers Christos Lialios and Katerina Vazoura.
Working with a small group of professionals –publisher,

graphic designers, printing and production team– and by often using the raw material artists trust in us, we try to reach the core of each artist’s work through close collaboration and interaction.

Patterns in Nature – Peter S. Stevens by Yiannis Papadopoulos is a book-after-a-book, rather than a redesign of an existing book. It is the result of negotiating the hierarchies of content of the Peter S. Stevens’ homonymous book, published in the 70’s, trying to find relevancies to appear as a printed matter again in the 2020’s. One could say that actually the reader deals with two books, both old and new, printed on top of each other and the printed space/object, that carries them.

It is a book-bound experiment, which challenges the idea of book design, content handling and printing methods. The book space contains three layers; the first one contains the pages of the old book with the original design. The next layer consists of the new book, which gives space for the original images to expand and reveal their details, accompanied by the text flowing released from tight restrictions between text/images. Between the two forementioned layers runs the third layer, an in-between space. Therefore, it was necessary to determine a concrete system of conceptual decisions with design consequences. Step by step the network of rules was completed, permitting the three layers weave autonomously an aesthetic outcome.

Στις 20 Μαρτίου 2022 ένα βραχυκύκλωμα κατακαίει το οικογενειακό σπίτι της Λίζης Καλλιγά στις Σπέτσες. Η ίδια μόλις που προλαβαίνει να πεταχτεί έξω: να διασωθεί∙ η αντίδρασή της ευτυχώς υπήρξε ακαριαία: η ζωή της σώθηκε∙ από το σπίτι δεν απέμειναν παρά μόνο τα ντουβάρια∙ ανάμεσα σ’ όλα τα υπάρχοντα, ένας ικανός αριθμός έργων της έγινε στάχτη.

Αυτό είναι το συμβάν.

Κατόπιν, η Λίζη Καλλιγά θα βρεθεί σ’ ένα κέντρο ψυχολογικής υποστήριξης στον Μαραθώνα. Στο δωμάτιό της, αντικρίζει επί τρεις μήνες τον άσπρο τοίχο απέναντι από το κρεβάτι της. Ο άσπρος τοίχος, μέρα με την ημέρα, αρχίζει να γράφεται∙ να γεμίζει από το βλέμμα της και τη συγκέντρωσή της σ’ αυτόν: σημεία και ίχνη κάνουν την εμφάνισή τους. Τότε αρχίζει να τον φωτογραφίζει και να τον βιντεοσκοπεί με το κινητό της μετά μανίας. Η φωτογράφιση και η βιντεοσκόπηση αυτού που έχει συνεχώς απέναντί της ως θέα είναι η ενστικτώδης αντίδρασή της ενάντια στη σκοτεινή παρόρμηση του θανάτου, της νεύρωσης και της διαταραχής: σαν προσευχή ή διαλογισμός, αυτή η ανίατη επανάληψη της δράσης, η καταβύθιση στον εαυτό, διαπερνώντας τον τοίχο, παίρνει τη θέση μεγίστης ιαματικής λειτουργίας, σταδίου πένθους και θεραπείας, αποκαλυπτικής πράξης, συνειδητοποίησης και αποδοχής ενός συνεχούς που μετεγγράφεται πάντα στο τώρα οδηγώντας στην απελευθέρωση.
