An Israeli army officer accused of war crimes in Gaza is holidaying in Greece.
On 3 September, the Hind Rajab Foundation filed a complaint with the Greek Supreme Court prosecutor against Major Yair Ohana of the Givati Brigade — one of the units accused of carrying out mass destruction, torture, and genocidal acts in Gaza.
The foundation argues that Greece has a legal obligation under its constitution, criminal code, and international conventions to prosecute or extradite suspects of torture, war crimes, and genocide found on its territory.
By bringing this case forward, the Hind Rajab Foundation, named after five-year-old Hind Rajab, murdered in Gaza with her family, insists that Greece cannot be a safe haven for perpetrators of atrocities.
Justice for Gaza means accountability everywhere.

Across Greece, resistance is growing.

From Syros to Rhodes to Crete, people are blocking ships, confronting repression, and refusing to welcome genocide.

While the government shields apartheid and cracks down on dissent, the streets, ports, and squares are rising for Palestine.

Greece’s ruling New Democracy party has deepened its ties with Israel, aligning itself with the hardline government of Benjamin Netanyahu – even as Israel faces accusations of apartheid and genocide against Palestinians.

From billion-dollar arms deals and military exercises in the Aegean to energy collaborations and diplomatic cover at the UN, Greece has become a key ally in Israel’s regional ambitions.

But despite this, the people of Greece continue to stand on the side of justice, rejecting the normalisation of genocide and standing firm in their solidarity with Palestine.

Two days from now you will see (no, as usual, it won't be televised) pictures of mass protests across Greece and Europe. If you're interested to know more and want a relatively brief but comprehensive timeline of what the fuss is all about, check the link in the comments.

The Tempe case is unfortunately a very ordinary example of how privatisations, corruption and corporate profits kill innocent, working-class people every day.

Short video soon to follow.

Swimming banned on dozens of Volos beaches due to health concerns
The Central Port Authority of Volos has imposed a ban on swimming along a significant stretch of coastline in the Volos area, citing public health concerns. The ban, which affects beaches from Agria in the east to Agios Georgios Kynigas in the west, was prompted by the recent appearance of large quantities of dead fish washing up from Lake Karla into the waters of Pagasitikos Gulf.

Flood victims meet police instead of Prime Minister sparking opposition criticisism
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis faced criticism after visiting the flood-stricken town of Palamas in Karditsa under heavy police protection. The visit, intended to highlight reconstruction efforts, was marked by tension as around 500 flood victims were prevented from approaching the Prime Minister, with police forces erecting roadblocks to keep protesters at a distance.

Drinking coffee in the car could land Greek drivers with a €100 fine
Greek drivers are being reminded of a little-known provision in the country's Highway Code (KOK) that prohibits holding anything in your hands while driving—whether it’s a mobile phone or a cup of coffee. The rule, which has sparked renewed discussion, carries a fine of €100 and a 30-day suspension of the driver’s licence.

Greek Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis has come under fire for allegedly making false claims about the country's medical achievements. On Saturday, Georgiadis announced via social media that Greece had just completed its "first heart-lung transplant," a statement that was quickly picked up and reproduced by numerous media outlets. However, medical professionals have pointed out that this claim is inaccurate, as Greece's first such transplant took place more than 30 years ago.

Halkidiki at risk: the environmental and socio-economic impacts of Eldorado Gold’s investment plan
In April 2023, Greece's Ministry of Environment issued a new environmental permit for Eldorado Gold's investment plan in Halkidiki, replacing the previous conditions set in 2011—conditions that had been repeatedly violated. This decision came just months before the company resumed construction on the Skouries copper-gold mine, a project that had been on hold since 2017. The revised permit, based on a 2021 Investment Agreement, is seen by many as an accommodation of the company’s demands, allowing for more intensive exploitation of the region’s resources.

Traffic safety in Crete: 40 deaths and growing outrage over highway failures

The island of Crete continues to grapple with a deadly legacy on its roads, with 40 fatalities so far this year. The Panhellenic Association "SOS Traffic Crimes" has once again sounded the alarm over the state of the island’s infrastructure, particularly the Highway 90 or Northern Highway of Crete (BOAK). Amidst political wrangling and public outrage, the association is urging immediate action to prevent further loss of life.

Mitsotakis dismisses low wages in Greece as a myth, claims measures to combat inflation are effective
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has downplayed concerns about low wages in Greece, calling them a "myth" during a ministerial council meeting. He defended his government's efforts to tackle inflation, asserting that the measures taken to curb price increases have been effective. "Inflation is declining, and for the second month in a row, food price increases in our country have fallen below the European average," Mitsotakis claimed. He emphasised that a detailed comparison of product prices from last year to this year would demonstrate the effectiveness of the government’s efforts.
