✨ Celebrate Japanese Culture Day with a book that feels like a journey! ✨

This year, I’m featuring the gorgeous and insightful “Be More Japan” by DK. This isn’t just a book; it’s a visual feast and a deep dive into the heart of Japan.

From the serene philosophy of wabi-sabi to the electric energy of Tokyo’s pop culture, “Be More Japan” beautifully captures the unique spirit that connects traditional tea ceremonies with modern anime. It’s the perfect guide for anyone who wants to understand the art, soul, and incredible contrasts of Japanese life.

What does “Be More Japan” mean to you? Is it the pursuit of ikigai (a reason for being), the appreciation of seasonal beauty, or the joy of a perfect bowl of ramen? 🍜

Tell me in the comments what part of Japanese culture you love the most!

✨ Día de los Mu***os – Day of the Dead ✨

Every year on November 1st and 2nd, families across Mexico and beyond celebrate Día de los Mu***os — a colorful tradition that honors and remembers loved ones who have passed away. 💐
It’s not a sad occasion — it’s full of music, marigolds, candles, and sweet treats, celebrating life and family connections that never fade. 🌺

📚 These two lovely board books bring the spirit of this celebration to little readers:

🌼 Day of the Dead – A Count and Find Primer by Greg Paprocki introduces festive scenes to count through — from candles and sugar skulls to musicians and marigolds.

🕯️ Día de los Mu***os by Hannah Eliot (with bright art by Jorge Gutierrez) beautifully explains the traditions, from colorful altars to tasty pan de mu**to, in a way that’s easy for children to understand.

💛 Both are perfect for introducing young readers to this beautiful Mexican tradition and the idea that love lives on across generations.

Have you ever celebrated Día de los Mu***os — or read about it with your little ones? 💬

There’s something magical about stumbling upon a Free Little Library…
Like a tiny doorway into someone else’s bookshelf. 📚✨

While wandering around Riga, I found these 6 little book havens — each one with its own charm, tucked between city streets and quiet corners.
And of course… I also left a few stories behind for fellow wanderers to find 🌍💛

🔍 Have you stumbled across any of these cuties?
📸 Recognise the spots?

📚✨ Earlier this month I watched The Tattooist of Auschwitz mini series, and it left a deep mark on me. I couldn’t stop thinking about it… so I picked up the book trilogy by Heather Morris, inspired by true stories of survival, love, and unbreakable human spirit during the Holocaust.

💔 These books aren’t easy reads, but they are so worth it. Each one reminded me how fragile freedom is — and how strong people can be even in the darkest places.

📖 The Tattooist of Auschwitz — the love story of Lale and Gita, born in the middle of horror.
📖 Cilka’s Journey — the story of a girl who survived Auschwitz only to be punished and sent to a Soviet gulag. Her strength broke me.
📖 Three Sisters — a promise made between sisters to survive, no matter what. Their bond gave me goosebumps.

💐 I also visited the Bikernieku Memorial here in Latvia — one of the places where thousands of Jews and others were murdered during the Holocaust. Seeing it in person made the books hit even harder. It’s peaceful now, but you can still feel the weight of history.

Let’s never forget these stories.
Let’s keep reading.
Let’s keep remembering.

❓Have you seen the series or read any of Heather Morris books?
