While wandering around Riga, I found these 6 little book havens — each one with its own charm, tucked between city streets and quiet corners.
And of course… I also left a few stories behind for fellow wanderers to find 🌍💛

📚✨ Earlier this month I watched The Tattooist of Auschwitz mini series, and it left a deep mark on me. I couldn’t stop thinking about it… so I picked up the book trilogy by Heather Morris, inspired by true stories of survival, love, and unbreakable human spirit during the Holocaust.

💔 These books aren’t easy reads, but they are so worth it. Each one reminded me how fragile freedom is — and how strong people can be even in the darkest places.

📖 The Tattooist of Auschwitz — the love story of Lale and Gita, born in the middle of horror.
📖 Cilka’s Journey — the story of a girl who survived Auschwitz only to be punished and sent to a Soviet gulag. Her strength broke me.
📖 Three Sisters — a promise made between sisters to survive, no matter what. Their bond gave me goosebumps.

💐 I also visited the Bikernieku Memorial here in Latvia — one of the places where thousands of Jews and others were murdered during the Holocaust. Seeing it in person made the books hit even harder. It’s peaceful now, but you can still feel the weight of history.

Let’s never forget these stories.

☔ Breaking news: I now fully understand why Latvians read so much…

IT’S BECAUSE THE SUN IS A MYTH 😩🌧️

It’s been raining for ten days straight, and next week? More rain… So instead of crying about it, I just leaned into the weather and picked a stack of books as grey and dramatic as the sky outside. 💀💦

Last weeks emotional support crew:
🖤 5x Rūta Šepetis (queen of tears)
🧡 Meitene ar šauteni / A girl with a gun - not your average girl: she fought Soviet rule with a gun in hand and fire in her heart.
👑 2x Mušu valdnieks /Lord of the flies - A chilling tale of boys stranded on an island - and the darkness that lives within us all.

Mood: soggy but well-read.

💫 Today is the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression – a time to honor children who have been hurt by violence and conflict. 💙

🐰 In this day I chose to feature a very special picture book - The Rabbit Listened by Cori Doerrfeld. This gentle, powerful story shows how sometimes the best thing we can do for someone in pain is to simply be there and listen.

💛 Personally, this book is very close to my heart. It reminds me that even though I might not always have the right words, just being there and listening can make a big difference. It’s a beautiful lesson for kids and for us adults too.
