A few words about DIGIPAST:
It all started 11 years ago on tablets at archaeological sites across Greece. From there, it grew into mobile apps, and today it is a fully accessible web app. DIGIPAST has been reshaped with three strategic goals: , , and .

Visitors now simply scan a QR code and instantly access virtual tours with 3D reconstructions, 360° panoramas, and narration, without downloads, accounts, or extra devices. This “scan & go” approach reduces cost and complexity for tour operators, while empowering travelers to enjoy seamless cultural experiences directly on their phones.

Our latest content includes:

Yesterday, our developer Eirini traveled to Sofia to present MOPTIL’s technologies on “VR Services in Touristic Activities” as part of the VR4T Erasmus+ Project.

As VR experts in the tourism sector, we contributed to the training by showcasing real-world applications of Virtual Reality, ranging from low-tech solutions to advanced tools such as 360° video experiences and our own DIGIPAST 3D VR experience. The session highlighted how these technologies can enhance learning, accessibility, and engagement across the sector.

In a digital world, which story survives: The honest or the tempting? 🤔

That question, and many more, we explored at the during the recent session of the Special Standing on and , titled "Technology and Culture."

We warmly thank the President of the Committee, Mr. Stratos Simopoulos, for the invitation and the initiative to organize this important session, bringing together key voices & stakeholders from across the cultural and technological landscape.

Angeliki Eleftheriou, our Commercial Director, contributed to the conversation on the and of Artificial Intelligence ( ) in the cultural sphere. She emphasized that: “The responsible and precise use of artificial intelligence is like a train we can’t afford to miss, and I believe we won’t.”

She further posed a critical question for all creators of cultural experiences: “As creators of cultural narratives, we face an existential question for our cultural consciousness: which narrative will prevail: the well-researched and documented, or the false and appealing?”

Her intervention highlighted two key challenges:

• The urgent need for a to safeguard the accuracy and quality of digital information, especially in educational and interactive content.

• The delicate between and , calling for living, economically viable models based on collaboration between the state, research, and the private sector.

In this context, Angeliki referenced our ongoing commitment to this vision through emblematic projects such as COSMOTE CHRONOS, ODAP, and Naxos Smart Island, as well as our continued investment in emerging technologies: from -driven and to multilingual , designed to deepen cultural engagement and access.

Her participation highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary dialogue in shaping a responsible and inclusive digital cultural future.

We couldn’t have asked for a warmer welcome for our very first project in Italy.

The MATeL museum (formerly Museo della Latteria) in Lozzo di Cadore is now home to a one-of-a-kind augmented reality experience developed by our very own MOPTIL Italia.

Over 40 people came together to make this happen, supported by Italy’s Ministry of Culture, and a shared belief that tech can make heritage and tradition, relevant. Locals, students, and visitors explored the mills’ canal, watched behind-the-scenes stories, and even stayed for a taste of the region’s traditions. Quite literally 🧀

A milestone 🚩 achievement for MOPTIL Italia

Last Saturday, we celebrated the launch of our first project in Italy, coordinated by the General Manager of MOPTIL Italia, Guido Vrola: a custom-developed augmented reality app for the Museo della Latteria in Lozzo di Cadore.

Designed to transform the visitor experience, the app combines cutting-edge AR technology with the rich history of the region, offering a clear and engaging reconstruction of traditional dairy production. From raw milk to finished product, each step of the process is brought vividly to life, making complex techniques memorable for all audiences. It was truly inspiring to see our digital solution integrated into this unique cultural setting.

We are deeply grateful to the Museo della Latteria and the members of Latteria Sociale for their trust and collaboration, as well as all the partners who contributed to making this project a success.

We were proud to be represented by our CEO, Michael Kokkinos, and our CMO, Angeliki Eleftheriou, both of whom attended the event and are excited about upcoming projects.

Did you know that the word “museum” comes from the ancient Greek term “Mouseion,” which referred to a place dedicated to the Muses, the goddesses of inspiration? 🧚‍♀️✨

In ancient times, these spaces were more about poetry, learning, and the divine than exhibitions as we know them today. Yet even then, people collected and displayed meaningful objects, planting the seeds of the museum experience.

Fast forward to today: Museums have evolved into immersive experiences, where technology helps bridge the past and the present. Our app “Benaki 1821,” developed in collaboration with the Benaki Museum, is one such example, bringing the Greek Revolution to life in your hands.

Με βαθιά συγκίνηση, η ομάδα της MOPTIL αποχαιρετά τον αγαπημένο της Καθηγητή Πάνο Βαλαβάνη — έναν κορυφαίο αρχαιολόγο, πολύτιμο συνεργάτη και μέλος της Συμβουλευτικής μας Επιτροπής.

Η συνεισφορά του στην επιστήμη, την εκπαίδευση και τη διατήρηση της πολιτιστικής κληρονομιάς υπήρξε ανεκτίμητη. Τον ευχαριστούμε θερμά για την έμπνευση, τη γνώση και τη στήριξή του όλα αυτά τα χρόνια.

Η επιστημονική του κατάρτιση και η οξυδέρκειά του υπήρξαν καταλυτικές για την αποστολή μας να φέρουμε την πολιτιστική κληρονομιά πιο κοντά σε ευρύτερα κοινά και ιδιαίτερα στις νεότερες γενιές. Ως επικεφαλής αρχαιολογικός επιμελητής, εξασφάλισε την ιστορική ακρίβεια στις 3D αναπαραστάσεις μας, συμβάλλοντας καθοριστικά στον εμπλουτισμό του περιεχομένου των έργων COSMOTE Chronos, DIGIPAST και NAXOS AR, μετατρέποντας την αρχαία κληρονομιά σε μια ζωντανή και προσβάσιμη εμπειρία.

With deep sorrow, our team bids farewell to our beloved Professor Panos Valavanis — a distinguished archaeologist, trusted collaborator, and valued member of our Advisory Committee.

His contributions to science, education, and cultural heritage were truly invaluable. We are deeply grateful for his inspiration, knowledge, and constant support throughout the years.

Professor Valavanis’s scholarly expertise and keen insight played a vital role in advancing our mission to bring cultural heritage closer to wider audiences, especially younger generations. As our lead archaeological curator, he ensured historical accuracy in our 3D reconstructions, guiding the content of the COSMOTE Chronos, DIGIPAST, and NAXOS AR projects, making ancient heritage both accessible and alive.

We were fortunate to share a common vision with him, and we remain profoundly thankful for his continued belief in and commitment to our work.

His memory and legacy will live on, continuing to inspire our path and purpose.
