After World War II, Liberia’s shipping registry was established in 1948, offering attractive conditions for vessel registration. Greek shipowners registered 70% of their newly built ships under the Liberian flag, as Greece's national registry was losing its competitiveness. This decision played a key role in the reconstruction of Greek shipping and its rise to global dominance.
