100 PHOTO BOOKS of PAROS
A remarkable and unique project, showing life on Paros in a way never done before, is now in the final stages of preparation. Over the past 8 years, photographer Robert van der Most has been taking pictures of the island and its people, documenting aspects of community life, the villages and towns, the people, events, flora and fauna, rocks, boats, food, cats, dogs, sports, churches... and creating a body of work that constitutes an extraordinary cultural collection.
100 PHOTO BOOKS are now almost ready to go to press and Rob is asking for our support to finalize the books as a gift to the people of Paros. Rob is not profiting personally from this project - he is donating his work entirely for free so as to provide an important archive for our children and our children's children and to create a photographic record and promotional event that can serve to promote our island of Paros as an outstanding tourism destination.
100 PHOTO BOOKS with a total of more than 90,000 photographs of the island will be presented in an exhibition in the square of the Dimotiko (Elementary) School of Paroikia from 1-31st August 2015 and afterwards donated to the Paros Public Library for residents and visitors to study and enjoy for years to come.
In order to realize this project - 100 PHOTO BOOKS in a single presentation, something that has never been done before anywhere - Rob needs our help. If each one of us gives just €10 (or more), Rob will raise enough to cover the printing costs of the 100 books (24 x 35 cm / landscape / hard cover / ± 128 pages each) and the promotional materials for the exhibition (around €10,000 in total).
The printing deadline is Monday 15th June 2015, so if you want to support this exceptional project, please make your donation within the next few days.
If there is enough interest, Rob will also consider the possibility of sending the 100 PHOTO BOOKS (or at least part of the collection) on an exhibition tour of Paros, or elsewhere as a promotional initiative for Paros at international tourism fairs. After the exhibition copies of the books will be available at cost price (not for profit) on individual order to anyone who is interested.
