Carla Mk helming Gargoyle following her epic run from Hawaii to Alaska aboard 𝟱𝟵º 𝗡𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗛 𝗦𝗔𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗚 🇸🇪🇺🇸🇳🇴🇬🇧🏴‍☠️ Falken. A tad more luxury this time around but she's a seasoned veteran now.

An early wake up call on Ponza Island, left the crew with a dilemma. The winds and swell were sweeping through the anchorage and sailboats began to drag their anchors in the anchorage. With a cup of coffee and a review of the updated weather forecast, the crew decided it was time to head to Sardinia.

An overnight sail across the Tyrhenian Sea and we dropped the anchor off the Eastern Coast of Sardinia. We had a few days, to get Gargoyle stocked up and ready for visitors. Time for scrubbing and to fill the ship's stores from the local shops on the island.

Northern Sardinia is filled with crystal clear anchorages and beautiful beaches. Some in Europe refer to it as the "Bahamas of the Mediterranian." We have a great week of calm weather where our guests, enjoyed the seaside villages and ports of Sardinia and the Archipelago di la Maddalena.

Gargoyle departed Syracuse through the straight of Messina heading for the West coast of Italy. A couple quick anchorages as we headed North and soon we arrived to the Amalfi Coast.

The crew walked through the tourist filled streets of Amalfi Town, Positano and anchored in crystal clear waters with the fleet of tourist day boats. We also experienced one of the European heatwaves taking the daily temperatures over 40'C. Even with the heat , we wanted to check off one more bucket list and went to visit the site of Pompeii. Even with an early tour, the crew decided it was time to excape the heat and head for cooler waters.

A quick day hop and the anchor was dropped off the Ponza Islands. The intention was to spend a few days exploring the islands, however the wind gods had a different ideas. With a strong wind forecast for the archipelago, it was time to head for calmer waters.

Water conservation when cruising is a major concern and a few comments from recent guests prompted me to shoot this quick video while topping up our water tanks. We found that when cruising here in a very warm Sardinia with five of us aboard we were consuming ~200 liters per day. Our watermaker produces 40 liters per hour so we were running it for 5 hours a day. We have a fairly substantial battery bank and solar panel setup so this wasn't a problem but still, that's a lot of water. And that was with experienced guests who were consciously attempting to conserve. If you are on a boat, never let the tap run as you might at home. Always good advice but especially true on a boat.
Now back to our regularly scheduled programming of gin & tonics.
