Gargoyle has been relaxing in Preveza Marina for the past two weeks. Her crew has been busy getting all our marine services lined up for the long list of maintenance and upgrades. Our Hanse has just passed the 10-year mark and well, even though she is new to us, it is time for a bit of a refit.

We are hoping to have most of the work completed by the end of 2025 so we can test some of the changes early before the 2026 cruising season. This means November and December are going to be filled with lots of questions, large jobs and small jobs. For now, we are just checking items off the list, making sure everyone is lined up and crossing all our fingers and toes there are no “costly” surprises!

Preveza has calmed down from the summer season and it has been great to share this seaside city tourist free with the locals. With every store within walking distance, it has been awesome to run out and grab what we need from grocery, hardware, home and of course marine supplies. The weather has been mild with the days at 20’C, the evenings dipping to 15’C and it has been a gentle transition into winter. The town is just starting to decorate for the season, time to start getting into the holiday spirit!

As they say….”Winter is coming”. The guests have all departed and the last couple of weeks have been quiet on the good ship Gargoyle. We crossed through the Corinth Canal with our last guest and made our way West to be close to our home for the winter. The furry and human crew has been enjoying these last few days being at anchor and using the upper deck. But the season is changing - the cooler weather, stronger winds and rains have had us harbor jumping, seeking shelter before we head into the marina.

This summer has been the shakedown for Gargoyle, the crew getting used to our new home, her systems and determining what needs to be done to get her ready for ocean cruising. The season was great with a few little hiccups as the previous owner kept Gargoyle well maintained for us to take over the reigns.

Now what are we going to be doing when the clouds, rains and storms roll in? We have a long list of things to fix, annual maintenance and of course a few upgrades coming in the next three months. Time to put away the summer clothes and get out the winter grubs, time for the crew to get a little dirty!
