First review at FORGOTTEN SCROLL webzine: https://www.forgotten-scroll.net/metal-reviews/live-or-die/

AVALON from Rochester, New York, are familiar to most metal collectors out there thanks to their debut album, "Live or Die," which was privately released in 1988 on GFI Records.

"Live or Die" is one of the most sought-after US Metal records, thanks not only to its limited first pressing but also to the quality of the music it contains.

A careful listener can discover a variety of influences on this debut, ranging from European Heavy Metal to the NWOBHM. However, everything is perfectly balanced through the band's creative prism, resulting in the very distinctive trademark sound of this particular release.

The Arkeyn Steel Records team managed to track down drummer and founding member Lex Dunbar. Together, they worked on the reissue of the "Live or Die" full-length album, now appearing for the first time on CD and including the previously unreleased "Year Of The Pig" album from 1995 as a bonus.

Everything has been remastered from scratch by Kostas Scandalis at Infinity Studio (Thessaloniki, Greece). The booklet includes a complete set of lyrics, along with never-before-seen photos. Lex Dunbar and Chris Papadakis worked on the liner notes, while Kostas Athanasoglou developed the artwork for the CD.

AVALON was, without a doubt, one of the most important bands of the New York heavy metal underground. Their debut release was screaming for a reissue, so here it is!

First review at FORGOTTEN SCROLL webzine: https://www.forgotten-scroll.net/metal-reviews/songs-from-the-attic/

The Arkeyn Steel Records team continues its exploration of the truly uncharted waters of the '90s US progressive metal underground, once again focusing on one of the greatest bands to emerge from Akron, Ohio, USA: Twist of Fate.

Featuring members of Medalyon, Beyondévon, Wretch, Breaker, Destructor and Graven Image, to name just a few, Twist of Fate recorded and released top-quality music throughout the 1990s, building a remarkable reputation across the underground metal scene of their area. Those who delve into the US private-release metal treasures of the decade are surely familiar with the band's 1998 self-titled CD.

One year ago, Arkeyn Steel Records officially presented the band's previously unreleased 1997 LP-tape recordings, repackaged as the "Only When It Rains" full-length release. With the "Songs from the Attic" compilation CD, we are restoring and bringing even more material from the band’s archives back to light, once again with the invaluable assistance of the band's mastermind, Nick Giannakos (guitars).

All songs from the aforementioned ‘Twist of Fate’ mini-CD are included here: The band’s only official release remains one of the finest and rarest releases to emerge from the Ohio metal scene. Only 200 copies were produced back in 1998, and, as you can imagine, the original pressing sold out in the blink of an eye. Twenty-eight years later, these recordings are finally becoming available again on CD.

The band's 1996 demo is also included. It was never officially released; only a handful of unofficial copies circulated hand-to-hand among band members and close friends.

We have also managed to uncover, straight from the vaults, two previously unreleased compositions from 1998, finally recorded by the band as demo tracks in 2020, during the COVID-19 quarantine period.

All of the recordings featured here capture the band's unique blend of heavy and progressive metal, a combination that ultimately defined the band’s unmistakable trademark sound of this phenomenal act.

All audio material has been remastered by Kostas Scandalis at Infinity Studio in Thessaloniki, ensuring the best possible listening experience. The booklet includes complete lyrics and a wealth of previously unpublished photographs. The overall artwork was developed by Kostas Athanasoglou, while the stunning fantasy cover was created by the band's vocalist, John Stafford.
Through the Season of Change, the Eternal Flame guides us all to the Twist of our Fate. The journey continues... The treasures wait in the attic.

For fans of US Melodic Progressive METAL like FATES WARNING, HEIR APPARENT, FIFTH ANGEL, TRAMONTANE & ANTITHESIS!

First review at FORGOTTEN SCROLL webzine: https://www.forgotten-scroll.net/metal-reviews/scythe-ballet/

One of the finest Power Metal bands from Australia returns with its ninth album. Yes, you are reading this correctly: Ilium are back, six years after their previous full-length album, “Carcinogeist”, and four years after the Quantum Evolution Event EP.

Ilium need no special introduction, as the adventurous and progressively developed Power Metal they have been delivering has become their very own sonic trademark through the years. However, with their new album, they have managed to take their music to a whole new level.

Adam Smith on guitar, bass and keyboards, Jason Hodges on guitar, and Tim Yatras on drums join forces with vocalist Giles Lavery (Warlord, Alcatrazz, Jack Starr, Dragonsclaw), and the result is an amazing full-length that perfectly captures the definitive Ilium sound.

Is this the "thinking man's Power Metal"? Yes, it is. Not only because of the song structures, which explore new progressive dimensions, and not only because of Lavery's vocals, which bring a fresh wave of inspiration to the entire album, but mainly because of the overall songwriting, which ultimately becomes the album's greatest feature. And that practically means that “Scythe Ballet” is an album you simply won't be able to stop listening to.

Complex, exotically melodic and still so damned catchy, “Scythe Ballet” marks the return of a band with a truly special musical character and is an album that should not be missed, especially by those who are searching for something more in their daily metal listening.

01. Infant Clairvoyants

There are some releases that through the years have managed to reach a mythical status. "Deliver this Dream" by XCEL is without a doubt one of those.

Back in 1986 the band from Port Neches and Nederland, TX, US, released a full-length album that can only be described as "one of a kind". The enigmatic, emotional songwriting, the outstanding vocal performances, the heavenly guitar parts and the overall song structures starting from a melodic heavy metal basis and evolving to an almost progressive direction, make this record one of the finest examples of US Metal art.

Through the years the original pressing of the "Deliver this Dream" on vinyl became one of the most sought-after items for the metal collectors worldwide. In 2013 Arkeyn Steel Records released the album on CD including two bonus tracks from the 1987 "The Last Ride of Ichabod Crane" promo 7".

In 2026, we are celebrating the 40th anniversary of this masterpiece: Arkeyn Steel Records and Cult Metal Classics are releasing "Deliver this Dream" on vinyl for the very first time after its original 80s pressing!

This vinyl edition features remixed and remastered audio, the two 7" bonus tracks plus, photos, lyrics and liner notes including the band's story.

One of the most legendary US Metal albums is finally available again on vinyl, on an edition that does justice to its artistic and historical value! Get ready to deliver this dream! Once again!

Heavy Metal Swords HD [Official Lyric Video]: https://youtu.be/FeLz53pZYQs

First review at FORGOTTEN SCROLL webzine: https://www.forgotten-scroll.net/metal-reviews/queen-of-the-wildred/

One year after "Tales Of War And Magic", a debut full-length that made a huge impression on the underground heavy metal scene, RINGLORN return with their second opus.

The band's new lineup features founding member Gabriel Leirbag on bass, Mark J. Dexter (DEXTER WARD, ex-BATTLEROAR, ex-HYRKANIAN BLADES) on vocals, and newcomer Spiros Rizos (POWERCROSS, SINNER GUARD, DARK LEGION, EVIL KING) on guitar. Rizos brings a new dynamic to the band's sound with his remarkable guitar work, contributing to an excellent fusion of heavy, power, and epic metal.

On this new album, RINGLORN has managed to capture all the majesty of the '80s epic/heavy metal movement that was mainly worshipped by Italian, Greek, and US bands through the years: excellent songwriting, big choruses, and all the power of steel, which guides the band's faithful legions to absolute glory through hymns like "Heavy Metal Swords", "Guardians Of The Black Cross", "Ira Sacra" and of course the 8-minute-long magnum opus "Queen Of The Wildred".

Follow the mighty RINGLORN to their new kingdom where the fire of pure steel burns forever.

If you raise your swords for bands such as MANILLA ROAD, OMEN, VALKYRIE, MORGANA, SABOTAGE and WOTAN, this is a masterpiece that you should not miss.

Review at FORGOTTEN SCROLL webzine: https://www.forgotten-scroll.net/metal-reviews/electric-stardom/

"Electric Stardom" is the third album of the Greek guitar virtuoso and songwriter, Costas Varras, featuring the excellent voices of Mark Boals (Yngwie Malmsteen, Ring of Fire etc) and Goran Edman (Yngwie Malmsteen, John Norum, Brazen Abbot, Time Requiem, Madison etc).

Varras is the solo project of the Greek guitar virtuoso and "Electric Stardom" is a piece of neoclassical mastery that can easily be described as the biggest step in the musician's career so far.

In 1999 Costas Varras formed his first band: Perpetual. In 2004 Perpetual released one of the most important albums in the Greek Neoclassical Metal scene: "Overlord's Perpetual". In 2006 Costas Varras moved to Hollywood, California and in 2008 he graduated from Musicians Institute, reforming his band in L.A. In 2009 he traveled to Kent, England, to record an album with Chris Tsangarides, unfortunately, this album was never released. In 2017, he entered the studio of Bob Katsionis, and together they recorded the album "Neon-Classical" that was released one year later under the musician's name: Costas Varras. The "Rock You Hard" single release followed in 2020 featuring Mark Boals on vocals.

All those years of hard work, experience, and co-operation are reflected in "Electric Stardom". Varras is simply delivering a piece of neoclassical heaven presenting his best compositions so far. Power, melody, and emotion are combined on a brilliant album that is already getting huge reviews from the international press, as it was digitally released on Lion Music. Steel Gallery Records releases the album on CD, featuring an exclusive bonus track: "Palisha", a baroque, acoustic ballad featuring the vocals of the mighty Mark Boals. Bob Katsionis also adds his keyboard magic to the album, working one more time with Costas Varras.

So, get ready for an experience of absolute neoclassical greatness as it is captured on masterpieces like "The Tears of the World", "Electric Stardom" and "Concerto in G Minor RV 578".

An album that will drive you straight into your electric dreams!

First review at FORGOTTEN SCROLL webzine: https://www.forgotten-scroll.net/metal-reviews/defenders-of-the-realm/

Yes, it is finally happening. Arkeyn Steel Records is re-releasing the "Defenders of the Realm" compilation CD, which includes the complete recordings of the heavy / epic / power metallers Enchanter from Jackson, Michigan, US.

Released in February 2008, "Defenders of the Realm" marked the second title in the Arkeyn Steel catalog. Originally limited to 1000 copies, it sold out rapidly and has since become one of the most sought-after ASR titles to this day.

The compilation includes both of the band's demo tapes: "Defenders of the Realm", issued in 1988, and "Time Gone Past Nevermore", released one year later (1989). Both serve as fine examples of heavy / epic / power metal, delivered with a distinctive technical approach.

"Ethereal Quarter", the band's last recording, is also included. Finalized and mixed in 1990, it never received an official release until now. In this eight-minute masterpiece, Enchanter offer an epic and mystical work, presented in a complex yet emotional manner, clearly pointing toward the direction the band would follow in the next chapter of their saga, when they changed their name to Longings Past.

It is crystal clear that the band’s mastermind, guitarist James Shellberg, was channeling his broad artistic vision through Enchanter, delivering epic and powerful music shaped by near-progressive structures, inspired by early-era Fates Warning and similar acts. The music included in this reissue is far more important than a mere “demo discovery from the vaults”; it stands as a piece of fine epic art.

The new reissue features a brand-new remaster by Kostas Scandalis (Infinity Studios, Thessaloniki).
Kostas Athanasoglou redeveloped the booklet from scratch; the complete set of lyrics is included, together with extra photos that remained unreleased until now. Chris Papadakis (Forgotten Scroll Zine) wrote the liner notes.

We would like to dedicate this new pressing to Richard L. Copeland (drums) and Jimmy Delamater (bass), two Enchanter musicians who have passed on to Valhalla. And to all of you who have kept the Arkeyn Steel fire burning all these years. Hail!

For fans of FATES WARNING (Arch era), MANOWAR, CAULDRON BORN, MANILLA ROAD, MAJESTIC RYTE & OMEN!

First review at FORGOTTEN SCROLL webzine: https://www.forgotten-scroll.net/metal-reviews/he-who-remains/

Today, we announce the debut album of a band destined to add a golden page to the grand book of the Heavy Metal pantheon: the mighty Sanctum Pyre.

Formed in 2025, Sanctum Pyre released two singles as the first glimpses of their potential. The impact was immense from the very first listen, prompting the Steel Gallery team to waste no time in approaching the band to bring their exceptional debut album to fruition.

Musically, the band blends Heavy and Power Metal, placing strong emphasis on Eastern scales and cultivating an exotic dimension within their sound. The result is an intricate fusion of lyricism and epic grandeur reminiscent of bands like Crimson Glory and Arrayan Path, all delivered with the unmistakable personal signature of Sanctum Pyre.

At the helm of Sanctum Pyre stands Nikos Tzouannis (keyboards), responsible for all compositions, orchestration, and lyrics. On vocals, we find the great Rob Lundgren (Echosoul, Mentalist, Reveal, Epilog), while Mike G. handles guitars and bass and is also responsible for the drum programming.

The album also features special guest appearances. On “Daughter Of The Wind,” Thomas Karam (Noor, Exxûl) delivers a formidable duet alongside Shlomit Levi (Orphaned Land).

Exclusively for the Steel Gallery Records CD edition, the bonus track “The Veil Is Torn” is included, once again featuring Thomas Karam delivering one of his finest performances as guest vocalist.

The marvelous front cover was created by Carlos Fides (Evergrey, Narnia, Shaman).

“He Who Remains” is far more than a mere debut; it heralds the rise of a band destined to leave a profound mark on the Heavy Metal scene.

Review at FORGOTTEN SCROLL webzine: https://www.forgotten-scroll.net/metal-reviews/beneath-the-veils-of-winter/

Dark Nightmare, the Epic Heavy Metallers from Grevena City, Greece, do not need any special introduction. For almost two and a half decades they have been generously offering high class steel through their various releases and their live shows.

It is not the first time that we have worked with the band to represent their back catalogue: Back in 2021 we reissued their legendary demo recordings through the "The Dark Demo Years" compilation and now it is time to re-release their monumental "Beneath The Veils Of Winter" full length.

Originally released in 2012 on Iron on Iron Records, "Beneath Ohe Veils Of Winter" was the album that introduced a wider audience to the greatness of Dark Nightmare's steel. It features some of the band's all-time classics like "The Battlefield Calling My Name", "Beneath The Veils Of Winter", "Are We Free?" and "The Voyage". The album highlights a remarkable evolution to the band's overall songwriting featuring a wide usage of multiple guitar and keyboard melodies alongside the powerful riffing and larger than life vocal lines. This full-length is also the first one to feature Nikos Michalakakos (Spitfire, Ragenheart, Thelemite, Blind Justice) on bass, a musician who over the years, became a key member for the band.

"Beneath The Veils Of Winter" quickly became the favorite Dark Nightmare release for the fans, it sold out very quickly, eventually becoming unavailable to those who did not manage to obtain a copy of the first Iron on Iron Records pressing. As you can imagine the demand for a reissue was very high. Well, the wait is over, 14 years after its original release, this Heavy Metal gem is available again.

The Steel Gallery Records edition comes with five bonus tracks -two studio and three live recordings-, the original front cover designed by Kostas Theoharis (Blade of Spirit), plus upgraded booklet layout/front cover by Kostas Athanasoglou.

So, now is your chance to discover or rediscover this absolute classic of Hellenic Steel and finally add a physical copy to your collection. The magnum opus of Dark Nightmare is available again and now you have no excuses: The wintry battlefields are waiting for you!

For fans of LIEGE LORD, MANILLA ROAD, VIRGIN STEELE, SORCERER & DOOMSWORD.
