How do you spend your afternoon in Zante on a lovely (horrendously hot) day? Rummaging through thorns and nettles in 35 degree heat sound about right? Our team thinks so!
We had 6 puppies reported to us this morning, dumped at our fellow Peppermint Cat Colony. We were messaged, and the person who found them was asked to leave them some food, but they had to go to the airport shortly after. So one of our team went straight from work but she could not reach the puppies alone. They were too far into the brambles and thorns. So an hour or so later, two more went to try. We followed the cries into the undergrowth and found one little boy, totally wedged in. But we knew there were 5 more. So, we continued to rummage wherever the cries were coming from.. and finally, by lifting up a giant dead tree, we found 5 more crawled deep into the thorns and nettles. Totally stuck and overheating. We hate to think what would have happened to them in the next 12 hours.
All 6 are now safe. They are totally infested with fleas, covered in cuts and what we believe is ringworm. They are exhausted and scared, but they are safe. 6 lives saved today.
We will share more on them soon, but right now they need to spend the night somewhere safe with food and water, and a good sleep. They will be vaccinated when old enough and then they will be for adoption but they are far too young and vulnerable for now.
