Our people revered our mothers, our grandmothers, our sisters and the matriarchs of our clans long before Hallmark made Mother’s Day cards.

From Fu’una, to the Maga’håga’ to the techa, to the nåna and Famalao’an of today.

But since this is one way that we have come to express this love and respect today, “Magof Ha’ånen i Mannåna.”

Fanachu helps to document the history of Chamoru protest and resistance.

The group Nasion Chamoru was officially formed in 1991 and throughout its existence has taken on numerous causes related to self-determination, land return and decolonization and engaged in a variety of direct action protests. This is an image from one of their protests in the 1990s demanding that the US military repatriate latte stones and artifacts to the Chamoru people.
