𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫 & 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐑𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐬

A successful Training Seminar and Sensitization Workshop was held at the Officers Training Complex, bringing together members of the Court Prosecutors, Court Orderlies, Station Inspectors, Gender-Based Violence Unit (GBVU), Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and other court-related ranks.

The workshop, which commenced at 09:00 hrs and concluded at 12:30 hrs, focused on strengthening the administrative, supervisory, and operational capacity of participants, while promoting effective case management, consistency, collaboration, and standardization across divisions.

Objectives

The workshop was designed to:

- Provide guidance on effective and proper record-keeping.
- Review procedures for dealing with juvenile offenders.
- Promote clarity and consistency among the various units.
- Address operational challenges affecting the efficient ex*****on of duties by CID, GBVU, and Court Support personnel.
- Facilitate the sharing of experiences and best practices.
- Address concerns raised by partner agencies, including Blossom Inc., ChildLink, and Child Protection, and identify practical solutions to improve departmental working standards.

Issues Addressed

Presentations and discussions led by Superintendent Daniels and Ms. Gomes of Blossom Inc., highlighted several areas requiring attention, including:

- Incomplete crime files.
- Absence of witnesses.
- Failure to conduct orderly rooms.
- Timely submission of resumes and dismissal reports within 48 hours.
- Proper vetting of matters filed at the Court Support Office.
- Strengthening collaboration with NGOs and partner agencies.
- Incomplete preparation of Form C6 by CID ranks.
- Failure to notify relevant agencies of court dates and identify witnesses requiring counselling.

The workshop also provided an opportunity for participants to raise operational concerns and receive clarification and guidance from the presenters.

A total of 42 ranks participated in the workshop, with representation from the GBVU, Prosecutors, Court Orderlies, Station Inspectors, and Sergeants, including personnel from Turkeyen and Ruimveldt Stations. Presentations were also delivered by Ms. Goodman of ChildLink.

The session emphasized that effective case management requires communication, accountability, proper documentation, teamwork, and strong collaboration among law-enforcement units and partner agencies.

Notably, the Sub-Divisional DDI and Traffic Heads, against whom several of the concerns raised were directed, were absent from the workshop.

Overall, the seminar served as an important platform for identifying challenges, sharing experiences, strengthening professional relationships, and working toward improved standards in the administration of justice and the delivery of services to victims, witnesses, and the wider community.

On Saturday, September 5, 2026, Sergeant Bourne and ranks attached to the Traffic Department of Regional Division #9 conducted a traffic safety lecture for residents of Potarinau Village, South Rupununi.

The engagement focused on promoting responsible road use and enhancing residents’ knowledge of traffic laws and safe driving practices.

Topics discussed included:

1. The definition of traffic
2. The procedure for acquiring a driver’s licence
3. Rules of the road
4. Kerb drill
5. Defensive driving
6. New vehicle tint regulations
7. The Five C’s of safe driving
8. Restrictions on the use of handheld mobile devices while driving
9. Traffic signs, signals and road markings
10.Driving under the influence of alcohol and the consequences

Residents expressed their appreciation for the informative session and welcomed the opportunity for continued engagement with the Guyana Police Force.

On Friday, September 4, 2026, ranks attached to the Traffic Department of the Lethem Police Station conducted an educational road safety lecture for students of the Tabatinga Secondary School.

The session was facilitated by Lance Corporal Isaacs, Woman Constable Pedro, Constables David, Underwood and other ranks of the Lethem Police Station Traffic Department.

The students were sensitised on several important road safety and behavioural matters, including the definition of traffic, the importance of walking on the right-hand side of the road, kerb drill, the proper use of pedestrian crossings and the importance of wearing safety helmets.

Other topics addressed included, wearing reflective clothing at night, the safety requirements for pedal cyclists, including having a bell, brakes and lights, and safe practices when getting on and off stationary motor vehicles.

The ranks also reminded the students of the importance of obeying parents and teachers and maintaining positive behaviour by refraining from bullying, stealing and fighting.

The lecture was attended by 119 students and 18 teachers.

At the conclusion of the session, the teachers expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the Traffic Department for taking the time to engage the students and impart valuable road safety knowledge.

On Thursday, September 3, 2026, ranks of Regional Division 4 ‘A’, led by Inspectors Scott, Edwards-Fraser and Innis, along with Sergeants Wilson, Hyman, Bess and Sampson, and Rural Constable T. Griffith, conducted an educational lecture at the Sophia Special School.

The initiative formed part of the Guyana Police Force’s continued efforts to strengthen community engagement, promote child protection, encourage personal development and prevent crime among young people.

During the interactive session, the ranks engaged the students on several important topics, including:

1. Effective communication
2. Self-love and self-worth
3. Cybercrime and online safety
4. Bullying and respect for others
5. Drug abuse and its consequences
6. Sexual offences, personal boundaries and speaking to a trusted adult
7. Assault and peaceful conflict resolution
8. Personal hygiene
9. Traffic rules and road safety

The students actively participated in the discussions, asked questions and shared their views, creating a positive and engaging learning environment.

The session also provided an opportunity for the ranks to foster positive relationships with the students while reinforcing the message that the Guyana Police Force remains committed to safeguarding their safety, well-being and development.

At the conclusion of the programme, several students were presented with gifts in recognition of their active participation and engagement.

The Guyana Police Force, through Annai Police Station and its Traffic Department, conducted a community outreach and driver sensitization exercise in Toka Village on Thursday, September 3, 2026.

The initiative was led by Sergeant Osborne, Subordinate Officer-in-Charge of Annai Police Station, along with Woman Constable Thompson and Constable John. They were joined by Regional Councillor Bernie Robertson and members of the Community Policing Group (CPG).

The session focused on promoting road safety, responsible driving, and compliance with traffic laws and regulations. Drivers were sensitized on:

1. The importance of possessing a valid driver's licence
2. Proper road usage and adherence to traffic laws
3. Obeying road signs and traffic regulations
4. Exercising caution and responsibility while driving
5. Showing consideration for other road users
5. Ensuring vehicle documents are valid and up to date
6. Maintaining vehicles in a roadworthy condition

The engagement was interactive, with drivers actively participating in discussions and raising questions on various traffic-related matters.

The exercise formed part of the Guyana Police Force's ongoing efforts to promote safer roads, encourage responsible driving, and strengthen compliance with traffic legislation within communities.

The Guyana Police Force, through the Traffic Department and Annai Police Station, conducted an educational lecture for students of Toka Primary School on Thursday, September 3, 2026.

The session was conducted by Constable John of the Traffic Department, Woman Constable Thompson, Community Policing Group members Alli and Shawn of Annai Police Station, and Toshao Davis of Toka.

The students were engaged on several important topics aimed at promoting safety, discipline, and positive behaviour, including:

1. Bullying prevention
2. Walking safely on the right-hand side of the road
3. The Kerb Drill
4. The importance of wearing safety helmets
5. Wearing white or brightly coloured clothing at night
6. Pedal cyclists being equipped with a bell, brakes, and lights
7. Obeying parents and teachers
8. The importance of regular school attendance and avoiding absenteeism

The lecture was attended by 8 teachers and 39 students. The students actively participated by asking questions, which were addressed by Constable John.

The teachers expressed their appreciation to the Guyana Police Force for delivering the informative and meaningful session and requested that similar lectures be conducted in the future.
