The Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Monday, June 1, 2026, launched its Junior Officersโ€™ Course No. 1/2026 at the Police Officersโ€™ Mess Annex, Eve Leary.

The programme was chaired by Woman Superintendent J. Prince, Commandant of the Guyana Police Force Academy, who also delivered welcoming remarks to participants.

This yearโ€™s course includes participants from across the Caribbean, along with members of the Joint Services, including the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU), Guyana Fire Service, Guyana Prison Service, and the Guyana Defence Force.

In his address, Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken introduced the course coordinators, Superintendent D. Fraser and Woman Assistant Superintendent D. Pollard. He highlighted the importance of the programme, noting that it falls under the accreditation framework of the Forceโ€™s Academy and reinforces the organisationโ€™s commitment to strengthening human resource capabilities.

The Commissioner explained that the course was redesigned to strengthen leadership, ethics, critical thinking, accountability, technology, and evidence-based decision-making.

โ€œThis programme is more than a training course; it is an investment in the future leadership of the GPF and, by extension, the Caribbean. As future supervisors, you will be expected to uphold higher professional standards, therefore you must lead by example,โ€ he said.

Additionally, the Commissioner outlined plans to expand specialised training in areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, intelligence analysis, digital forensics, and digital analytics. He also encouraged participants to embrace the opportunity, challenge themselves to grow, and demonstrate integrity and professionalism throughout the programme.

As the Guyana Police Force continues its transformation towards modern policing, the course will be delivered within a computer-based learning environment, reflecting the Forceโ€™s commitment to the integration of technology in policing and training.
