The Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) is targeting drug trafficking in Lethem, a town in Rupununi near Guyana's border with Brazil. The agency said one person was arrested on Monday in connection with an operation at a house at Tabatinga, Lethem that unearthed 1.6 kilogrammes of ma*****na and 63.7 grammes of co***ne. The anti-drug agency said its agents also on Monday seized 1.2 kilogrammes of ma*****na from an "abandoned" house in Tabatinga. No one was arrested.

The Guyana Human Rights Association (GHRA) on Tuesday said it was insufficient for Western diplomats here to appeal for calm during recent unrest triggered by the death of an 11-year-old girl, but urged that they do more to demand public accountability by the police force and other institutions. While the American, British, Canadian and European Union diplomatic missions have also reaffirmed their commitment to democracy and peace, the association said their calls fell short of addressing the core issue- public trust- in national institutions such as the civilian law enforcement agency, State-owned media, and government spokespersons....
