Unity Express Responds to Alert Issued by María Corina Machado on the Death of Alfredo Díaz
Georgetown, Guyana — Unity Express acknowledges and expresses deep concern following a global alert issued by Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, reporting the death of Alfredo Díaz while in state custody in Venezuela.
According to the public statement shared by Ms. Machado, Alfredo Díaz died while detained under the Maduro administration—an allegation that, if confirmed, adds to longstanding concerns raised by international human-rights organizations regarding the treatment of political detainees in the country.
Unity Express extends its condolences to the family, loved ones, and colleagues of Alfredo Díaz. Any loss of life in detention is a serious matter that warrants transparency, independent investigation, and full accountability under international law. Political disagreement or ideological conflict must never result in dehumanization or the loss of fundamental rights.
We recognize María Corina Machado’s role in bringing international attention to the situation and echo calls for sustained global vigilance regarding the protection of political prisoners, due process, and humane detention conditions in Venezuela.
Unity Express stands with all those advocating peacefully for justice, dignity, and democratic principles. Silence in the face of such incidents only deepens divisions and erodes trust in institutions meant to protect life.
