Clarence B. Jones, a renowned lawyer and civil rights activist who served as one of Dr. Martin Luther King’s closest advisors has died, according to his son. He was 95.

From 1960 until King’s death in 1968, Jones served as King’s chief legal counsel and adviser, including helping draft the opening lines of his famed “I Have A Dream” speech at the March on Washington.

Some people are unnecessarily provoking because they have become comfortable in environments where they believe they will never have to answer for what they do. They throw accusations around carelessly, disrespect people openly, create tension for amusement, and push situations further and further simply because they expect restraint from everybody else. They rely on the patience of others while behaving recklessly with other people’s peace of mind.

Human beings naturally calculate risk. People move differently when they believe consequences are real. Very few individuals casually step into danger when they know the cost could be serious. Once people feel insulated from consequences, their behavior changes. They become bolder with their disrespect, louder with their insults, and more careless with how they provoke others.

That is why some people constantly agitate situations that never needed to become hostile in the first place. They stir conflict, spread lies, bait reactions, and then act surprised when tensions escalate. In many cases, the provocation itself becomes entertainment to them. They enjoy watching emotional reactions unfold while distancing themselves from responsibility for the atmosphere they created.

A lot of unnecessary conflict comes from people believing they can provoke endlessly without ever carrying the weight of what follows. Over time, that kind of behavior damages trust, destroys respect, and creates environments where everybody feels on edge. Accountability matters because once people stop fearing consequences, many also stop respecting boundaries.

On Monday, May 11, 2026, beginning at 10:00 AM at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre in Liliendaal, citizens will have an opportunity to engage directly with Vice-President Hon. Bharrat Jagdeo and members of the Cabinet during the upcoming Public Day initiative.

Citizens from every background and every political perspective are encouraged to attend respectfully and constructively. Democracy functions best when people participate, when concerns are raised openly, and when leaders remain accessible to the public they serve. Regardless of where one stands on the political aisle, the development of Guyana requires civic engagement, dialogue, and accountability grounded in mutual respect.
