Fifty-four-year-old Zamal Hussain has been appointed a Member of Parliament for the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C). He currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Regional Democratic Council in Region Six.

During an interview with members of the media earlier today, he reflected on his journey, noting that he completed his secondary education at the New Amsterdam Multilateral School before beginning a career as an accounts clerk. Over the years, he worked in several companies in senior capacities before eventually establishing his own business.

Mr. Hussain became fully active in politics in 2006, though he had been a member of the People’s Progressive Party several years prior.

President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali today met with Permanent Secretaries and Deputy Permanent Secretaries, outlining his government’s vision for a modern, digitized, and people-centered public service.

The Head of State emphasized that his administration is committed to transforming government service delivery through efficiency, transparency, and results-driven performance. He underscored that this shift must remain people-focused, ensuring reliability and timely delivery to citizens.

As part of the first phase of the transition in his second term, President Ali announced the appointment of four new Permanent Secretaries:

β€’ Mrs. Sharon Roopchand-Edwards – Ministry of Foreign Affairs

β€’ Mr. Roger Rogers – Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce

β€’ Ms. Duan Ellis – Ministry of Agriculture

β€’ Dr. Erica Forte – Ministry of Human Services and Social Security

The President further noted that additional appointments of Permanent Secretaries and other senior government officials will be announced in the coming days.
