Police statement and update

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body of Freeman Fordyce, a 49-year-old businessman, which was found on Thursday August 6, 2026, at about 13:00hrs, at his residence at Nandy Park, East Bank Demerara.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Fordyce, who lived alone, was last seen alive by a relative on Sunday August 2, 2026 about 16:00hrs. After several attempts by relatives to contact him went unanswered, the relative went to the residence on Thursday and discovered his body in a bedroom.

Fordyce was pronounced dead by a doctor from the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, after which his body was examined and no marks of violence were observed. No foul play is suspected at this time.

The body was subsequently escorted to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it was stored awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Investigations are ongoing.

UPDATE

A post-mortem examination with dissection was conducted on Friday August 7, 2026, on the body of Freeman Fordyce by Government Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.

The cause of death was given as heart failure.

The body was subsequently handed over to relatives for burial.
