Good Morning from St Joseph High!

Whether it be in the classroom or out, SJH students benefit from meaningfully engaging activities. Here, we see our current participating in a variety of sporting activities, including making use of the recently built multi-purpose Court. Past students will know that this project has been some time in the making, but it is coming together nicely! As can be seen, students are already making the best use of what exists for Basketball, and we look forward to the court's completion very soon!

Victor of the SJH Annual Athletics Championship - Irmaipan! 🧑

Following two weeks of intense sportsmanship and revisited rivalries, the victor of the 2024 athletics Championship is none other than Irmaipan house!
After racking up a 78-point lead in the track Championship, it was clear from the beginning that Irmaipan came into the championships with a clear plan, and was prepared to execute it well.
With the lead in hand, the members of the orange house continued their winning formula to secure the lead in the field event as well (an almost 100-point difference), it became abundantly clear that the race between the other houses was for second.

Irmaipan finally secured the championship with a sum total of 579 points, and thus have been declared the 2024 Championship winners!

Today, we celebrate World International Teachers' Dayβ€”a day dedicated to honoring those who molded our lives. These remarkable individuals are not just educators. They are mentors and inspirations who guide us through our journey of learning. Teachers lay the foundation for our futures, sparking our curiosity and helping us navigate everything from math to life’s challenges. Their impact extends far beyond the classroom. They put in countless hours, often sacrificing their own time to ensure we succeed. Let us express our heartfelt gratitude to our teachers. Let us acknowledge their tireless efforts, the extra hours, and the unwavering support they provide. As we honor these dedicated individuals today, let us also remember that education is a collaborative effort. We need to engage, participate, and show our respect for their hard work. So, let’s take a moment to express our gratitude for everything our teachers do. Together, we can create a brighter future while celebrating their contributions not just today but every day.

The Bourda Cricket Ground came alive on the 27th September 2024 as students and teachers participated in our annual track events.
Representation was seen from all the houses on the field and in the stands, which contributed to a thrilling, lively atmosphere. The event was highly competitive and fulfilling to the students and teachers who braved the scorching sun to support their respective houses. The highly anticipated 100, 200 and 400-meter races, the male and female relays, teachers' lime and spoon race, and the teachers' and parents' 100-meter dashes did not disappoint. It was indeed an exciting event as the students cheered on their teammates and teachers.

After the excitement had subsided over the weekend on Monday, the results for the track and field were announced, which led to jubilation once more for some, and the expected cries of disbelief from others.

Below are the results after the track event alongside images from the day of sports.

St. Joseph High School celebrated Amerindian Heritage Month under the theme "Many Voices, One Song: Celebrating Amerindian Heritage 2024." Students and teachers from several levels came together to honour the Indigenous culture adorned in colourful headwear and accessories. Informative and creative posters, replicas of the Umana Yana, Amerindian clothing, food, drinks and crafts were all on display. Further, to solidify the observance Varick Singh gave an impactful speech to the student body on the history of Guyana's first people and their many contributions to the nation. Shortly after, students were seen indulging in a tasty dish of pepper pot and bread, a dish significant to Amerindian culture. This event has proven that the Amerindian culture continues to be a significant part of our Guyanese culture.

𝐏𝐇𝐀𝐆𝐖𝐀𝐇 𝐀𝐓 𝐒𝐉𝐇

Staff and students of St Joseph High School celebrated Phagwah on March 19 with a cultural presentation followed by the traditional practise of playing with coloured Phagwah powder.

Opening the presentation was Headmistress, Mrs Raghubansi who spoke about the origin of Phagwah and the significance of the different colours used during the celebration.

Thereafter, stunning performances in poetry, dance and modelling were done by our students. Everyone was marvelled by the beautiful display of Saris and Kurtas that the students were adorned with, and the excellent dance performance by the talented seventh graders.

Special Thanks to the school’s counselor, Ms Sandra Tularam for spearheading the activity.
