The Hong Kong government is doubling the living allowance for households affected by a recent fire in Tai Po..
The allowance is increasing from hk$50,000 to hk$100,000 per household.
The fire occurred at Wang F*k Court in Tai Po.
Authorities are also working on a long-term housing solution for the affected residents..

Rhodora Alcaraz is a filipino domestic worker who became widely known for bravery in protecting a three month-old infant during a massive fire at the tai po, hong kong, Wang f*k court apartment complex on November 26, 2025.
Rhodora Alcaraz had only arrived in hong kong as few days prior to the five alarm fire. When the fire broke out, she and the baby were trapped in their apartment unit. As the situation became worst, her sister made a public plea for help on social media. In an act of unconditional love and responsibility, Alcaraz used her body to shield the baby from the heat and toxic smoke. When firefighters successfully rescued them several hours later, she was still holding the baby tightly in a protective embrace..

Following the rescue, both were immediately taken to the hospital. The baby condition was reported as stable. Due to severe injuries, likely from prolonged smoke inhalation, Alcaraz was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) and required incubation to assist her breathing doctors noted that once her condition is stable, she might need to be transferred to another hospital for further treatment l.
Her story has been widely shared across hong kong internationally, with many people praising her selflessness and contributing to relief funds for fire victims. Various organizations, including the philippine consulate, are providing assistance and monitoring her situation.

She is a real hero an eye opener to all employers that they should treat the helpers well, they will help you even put their life in danger for the safety of the child, feed them well and treat them humanly.

Families of domestic helpers who died in the Tai Po fire will each recieve nearly hk$800,00 (US$102,718) in condolence and compensation payments, Hong Kong's labor chief has said.

As of 5pm on Tuesday, 10 domestic workers were among the 156 residents confirmed dead in last week's blaze at Wang F*k Court in Tai Po, while the fate of 30 others remained unclear.

Secretary for Labor and Welfare Chris Sun Yuk-Han on Tuesday said families of the deceased workers would receive morethan HK$500,000 in statutory Compensation, and another HK$250,000 in aid.

Of the HK$250,000, HK$200,000 was a token of solidarity l, with the remainder to cover funeral and related expenses..

We will make sure only genuine family members are eligible claim the financial assistance; Sun said, after meeting Philippine Secretary for Migrant Workers Hans Leo Cacdac at the government's headquarters in Tamar.

"We will work with the consulate to make sure the money is distributed to the right people"

Wang F*k Court helpers will receive each a payout of HK$20,000 from the Labor Department to cover their loss of income. They will also be eligible for full medical fee waiver ls until December 21, 2026.
Injured workers will receive HK$50,000 if they spent up 6days in hospital, or HK$100,000 for 7days or more.

The Philippines government would provide educational support to the children of those injured or killed in the fire, he said....
