When I use GFX100RF for “Portrait”

The GFX100RF is undoubtedly a powerful and lightweight MF camera, but its drawback is also obvious... a non-interchangeable 35mm f/4 prime lens.

Many people say that the f/4 aperture is too small... If you're familiar with or have used medium format cameras from the film era, most lenses start at f/3.5-f/4, with only a very small number of lenses having f/2.8 or lower. f/4 is considered a "standard" aperture in the MF system.

Thanks to the large 102MP sensor, the camera offers three additional digital crop focal lengths: 45mm > 63mm > 80mm, giving me flexible "zooming" capabilities for portrait photography. Although cropping reduces pixel size, it still retains the benefit of a MF camera: high pixel (high resolution), image quality, 16-bit color depth, and 15.3 stops dynamic range... etc

*One important point to note: the lens is f/4. While digital cropping changes the focal length (magnification), the aperture and bokeh effect remain unchanged. Therefore, digital cropping on the GFX100RF does not alter the optics of the camera or lens, nor does it directly affect depth of field. There's no such thing as "the equivalent aperture decreases after teleconversion." It's not a lens adapted... Most people are wrong about this.

As a professional photographer, I use my equipment extensively on every shoot. When any of the aforementioned items become worn out, I can immediately replace them with new ones except memory cards. They store the day's footage, if the card breaks or crashes, you will lose all datas and might caused a penalty for it. Of course, I don't always store my photos on the card, I have a NAS at home for backup, and I always shoot tethering, syncing my camera card and computer for extra security.

I've used several different brands of cards over these years, my earliest ones were SxxD###, I initially used them because they were a well-known brand, but the bigger the brand, the more problems with counterfeit and substandard cards there became, so I switched to L###x. They were also very good quality initially, and MIT cards, at least for the first two years… But then, after changing the manufacturer, the quality declined. I bought two V90 SD cards for my GFX100S for works, both cards died within six months separately, completely lost all my datas and un-recoverable. Fortunately, I was using dual cards backup setting, so didn't cause any major impact. However, it did make me think about switching brands...

I recently started using the GFX100RF, another MF camera with dual SD card slots. I've previously featured Exascend's CFe B card, which has performed well and reliably under heavy workloads on my GFX100ii. The FUJIFILM official recommended card list, and their Catalyst/ESSENTIAL series provide lifetime maintenance (card replacement) and data recovery services, which is definitely a guarantee for professional photographers! This time, let this new camera use the new Exascend v90 SD card to start its new journey.
