Southern parts of Australia were treated to a spectacular light show last night. That was after the Bureau of Meteorology issued an alert for a severe geomagnetic storm. The storms are what cause the phenomenon known as the aurora australis (also known as the southern lights), which produce a colourful light show in the sky.The strength of the storm meant it was visible even on the outskirts of Perth.

On November 12, 2025, the rugby sevens tournament of the 15th National Games of China (2020-2025) kicked off at the Kai Tak Sports Park Main Stadium in Hong Kong. In the men's group stage match held on the first day, the Hong Kong team defeated the Shandong team 24-12, winning their first match.

11月12日，广州首条超大直径盾构隧道海珠湾隧道正式建成通车。
通車後，廣州中心城區至廣州南站可實現15分鐘互達，對增強廣州南站集疏運能力，進一步釋放其核心門戶樞紐功能，強化廣州國際綜合交通樞紐地位，提高粵港澳大灣區基礎設施「硬聯通」水準具有重要意義。

[Guangzhou's First Ultra-Large Diameter Shield Tunnel, Haizhu Bay Tunnel, Opens to Traffic] On November 12, Guangzhou's first ultra-large diameter shield tunnel, Haizhu Bay Tunnel, officially opened to traffic. The tunnel is 4.35 kilometers long, with six lanes in both directions. The shield tunneling section was constructed using two 15.07-meter ultra-large diameter shield tunneling machines, employing multiple innovative technologies to overcome the complex geological challenges of the Pearl River Delta's soft upper and hard lower red strata. It also successfully tunneled under multiple waterways of the Pearl River system, achieving millimeter-level settlement control—the first and largest-scale ultra-large shield tunnel with millimeter-level pile foundations in China. After its opening, travel time between Guangzhou's central urban area and Guangzhou South Railway Station will be reduced to 15 minutes. This is of great significance for enhancing the transportation capacity of Guangzhou South Railway Station, further releasing its core gateway hub function, strengthening Guangzhou's status as an international comprehensive transportation hub, and improving the "hard connectivity" level of infrastructure in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

【與國際奧委會終身名譽主席會面】
今日下午，我（特首李家超）與國際奧委會終身名譽主席巴赫先生會面。巴赫先生星期日在廣州出席全運會開幕式，之後來到香港，我歡迎他訪問香港賽區場地並觀賽。這次全運會首次由粵港澳三地共同承辦，對香港意義重大，既能推廣本地體育發展，彰顯我們籌辦大型綜合體育賽事的能力，同時亦突顯大灣區城市及地區攜手合作帶來的協同效應。
特區政府致力為全球體育發展作出更大貢獻。我（特首李家超）在最近發表的《施政報告》中提到，將提供財政誘因支持亞洲或國際體育組織總會落戶香港，以期藉此深化香港與國際體育組織的聯繫，從而進一步拓展香港體育產業，培育本地體育行政人才。
我（特首李家超）亦向巴赫先生表示，特區政府全力支持港協暨奧委會明年十二月在香港舉辦2026年國家和地區奧委會協會全體代表大會，我（特首李家超）有信心屆時將為來自全球的與會者帶來結合體育、會議與旅遊的獨特體驗。
【Meeting with Honorary President of International Olympic Committee】
I met with Dr Thomas Bach, the Honorary President of the International Olympic Committee this afternoon. Dr Bach attended the opening ceremony of the National Games in Guangzhou on Sunday before coming to Hong Kong. I welcomed his visit to the event venue of Hong Kong competition region. This is the first time the National Games is co-hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. Co-hosting the National Games carries a deep meaning to Hong Kong, in terms of promoting sports development in the city, demonstrating our capability to organise large-scale multi-sport games, as well as highlighting the synergy brought by collaboration among Greater Bay Area cities/regions.
The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government is keen to contribute more to global sports development. I announced in my recent Policy Address an initiative to provide financial incentives to support Asian and international sports associations to establish their presence in Hong Kong. Through this initiative, we hope to foster closer ties between Hong Kong and international sports organisations, thereby further expanding Hong Kong's sports industry and nurturing local sports administration talents.
I also told Dr Bach that the HKSARG fully supports the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China to host the 2026 Association of National Olympic Committees next December in Hong Kong. I am confident that participants from around the world will be provided with a unique experience that integrates sports, conferences and tourism.

【北京·香港经济合作研讨洽谈会开幕式】

今早，我(特首李家超)很高兴出席第二十八届「北京·香港经济合作研讨洽谈会」。洽谈会以「京港携手 联通世界」为主题，聚焦京港两地经济的优势互补，围绕金融、贸易、科技创新等两地重点合作领域，推动两地发展策略和优势对接。我(特首李家超)亦对北京市市长殷勇率团来港出席洽谈会表示热烈欢迎。

京港两地血脉相连，长期以来合作互惠共赢。截至去年底，香港在北京累计实际投资超过1,400亿美元，在京设立外企总数超过14000家；同时，北京在香港累计直接投资存量超过500亿美元，在香港上市企业超过270家。过去一年，北京多家具有代表性的科创企业在香港上市或设立业务，京港两地在创科的领域各具优势、互补性强，我(特首李家超)鼓励更多北京企业落户北部都会区和河套合作区，善用香港服务打开发展新篇章。

我(特首李家超)在今年《施政报告》提出，为更好支持内地企业「出海」，特区政府会成立内地企业出海专班，主动招揽有意拓展海外业务的企业，通过香港「走出去」，把优质的国际资本「引进来」。专班已在上月初启动，汇聚多个业界力量，一同支援内地企业以香港为起点，联通世界、接轨全球。京港两地将用好各自优势，紧密合作，搭建更多交流平台，携手开拓发展新蓝海。
