//我喜歡emo是因為它毫不歉疚地表露情緒。現實生活裏,我們經常為自己的情感找理由、道歉,但在emo音樂裏不用。你可以很戲劇化,很誇張,表現出你根子裏是甚麼人。然而,歌曲裡的柔軟與敏感,令我有別其他類似的男性音樂人,他們的表演也許充斥著某種男子氣概的張揚──「怕了吧?少來惹我!」之類的,但對我來說,表演徹徹底底是關於sensitivity。
What I like about emo is it’s unapologetically emotional. So often in life, we have to qualify our emotions and apologize for them. In emo music, you don’t. You can be totally melodramatic and over-the-top, and if that’s what you are, that’s what you are.
The fact that my songs are really soft and sensitive is what sets me apart from a lot of other men who do this style of performance because I think a lot of it is like machismo. “Be intimidated by me, be scared, see how strong I am, I’m a badass,” blah blah. But I think what differentiates me from other people who perform in this style is that my performance is all about sensitivity.//
