The editors are inviting proposals (100-200 words) along with sample material for a forthcoming collection of innovative peer-review and communicative practices in L2 writing classrooms. The book will share second-language writing classroom practices that integrate communication to help address challenges, such as the isolating nature of writing tasks. It will introduce innovative peer review practices and tools to foster a communicative environment, benefiting both experienced and new teachers. By integrating these activities, writing teachers can help students build confidence as language learners and authors while engaging more deeply with the writing process and enhancing their overall language skills.

'Pulling Back the Curtain in Self-Access: Stories of Student Staff Member Motivation,' by Christopher Phelps

"Christopher Phelps’ book on SAC student staff member motivation is an important addition to the field of self-access. Its combination of engaging insights, based on a rigorous analysis of inspiring student staff narratives, and practical applications will be appreciated by all those working with students in self-access environments. Student staff are at the core of successful SAC models, and this book can help SALL practitioners to foster their talents and motivation, and enrich their own self-access roles in the process." Artificial Intelligence in Our Language Learning Classrooms, edited by Louise Ohashi, Mary Hillis, & Robert D***s

It "offers insight into teaching with GenAI, and helps build knowledge about these new technologies and their impact on language education... it examines how GenAI is already being used in classrooms to the benefit of and in collaboration with the students. This book’s chapters speak to teaching practice, to pedagogy, and to the professional and ethical responsibilities of educators......this book is a very welcome addition to the growing body of literature on language learning and teaching with GenAI"

What motivates student staff members (SSMs) who work in self-access centres (SACs)? Pulling Back the Curtain in Self-Access takes readers inside these unique learning spaces in Japanese universities to explore this question through vivid personal narratives. Drawing on interviews and narrative inquiry, Christopher Phelps examines what drives SSMs to begin and sustain their roles, whether it’s the desire to help others, develop language skills, or build meaningful social connections. By situating these stories within the framework of Self-Determination Theory, the book illuminates how autonomy, competence, and relatedness shape students’ motivation and well-being.

More than a research study, this is a deeply human exploration of learning, teaching, and belonging. Combining rich storytelling with practical insights, the book bridges theory and practice for educators, advisors, and administrators who wish to nurture motivation in student staff and create more autonomy-supportive self-access environments. The concluding chapters offer concrete strategies for recruitment, training, and development—transforming everyday SAC experiences into spaces of growth and collaboration.
