Join CM Chan and Chloe Feng this Saturday on Trending China!

This week, we’ll find out more about the ‘Xixia’ or ‘Western Xia’ Imperial Tombs, that have just been listed as a UNESCO heritage site. This recognition highlights its importance as a centre for cultural exchange and commerce along the ancient Silk Road.

The tombs are located near the Helan Mountains, about 30 kilometres west of Yinchuan. It includes nine imperial mausoleums and around 270 subsidiary tombs, covering more than 5 hectares. Why are the Xixia Imperial Tombs so special? In what ways do they exemplify the cultural exchange between the East and West? CM Chan and Chloe Feng will be discussing this with Lawrence Pang from the Society of Chinese Wisdom and Management.

Tune in this Saturday at 8:30am!

Tune in to Trending China this Saturday!

Join CM Chan and Chloe Feng as they explore the world of rare earth metals - 17 elements recognised for their unique electrical and magnetic properties.

In recent years, rare earth metals have been a lesser-known topic, despite their strategic significance. However, this year, they have taken centre stage as China leveraged its dominance in this sector to counter US tariffs.

While these minerals are not especially scarce, their extraction presents significant challenges, making them "rare" in terms of accessibility for industries like advanced weaponry, robotics, aerospace, electric vehicles, and mobile phones.

How has the mainland strengthened its rare earth refining capabilities? What does the future hold for the rare earth industry? To discuss this, CM Chan and Chloe Feng will be joined by Forest Chan, a research analyst at CLSA

Sunday Escape
(6 JULY, Every Sunday 9am-12noon)
This Sunday, Carolyn will be playing what she can of the new releases, which are thin on the ground due to festival season in the UK - but do include tunes from Wet Leg, The Lemonheads, and I kid you not, Men Without Hats. There's also some of the tracks that didn't quite fit last week from Say She She, Sorry and Wednesday, plus a quite nerdy clever Super Clever Music Mystery Quiz and hopefully some biscuits that are as good as last week's were.

Join Carolyn Wright every Sunday morning on the Sunday Escape to hear the best in new music, including three tracks from her album of the week, along with a carefully curated selection of classics, plus interviews with guests from all over the city and beyond. There’s also occasional live music in...
