Nasa astronaut Jessica Meir shared a timelapse of the Southern Lights as seen from the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft.

‘’As opposed to the previous aurora I’ve seen, this one danced and snaked its way directly below us, putting on quite a show,’’ Meir wrote on social media.

“I am in awe of this ethereal and emotionally evocative phenomenon,’’ she added.

Auroras occur when solar particles interact with Earth’s atmosphere, producing shimmering curtains of color.

Thailand's former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra is officially a free man, less than a week after receiving a royal pardon, the Department of Corrections said on Tuesday.

Thaksin, 76, served eight months of a one-year sentence for corruption and abuse of power before being released on parole last month due to his age and health.

"The prison issued the official release documents and certificate of discharge to Thaksin," officials said in a statement.

It said Thaksin was "no longer subject to criminal punishment, supervision or related conditions," noting that the same standards were applied to other eligible parolees.

Hong Kong could be bracing for typhoon "Dim Sum" in the future, after the designation was added to the list of tropical cyclone names in the western North Pacific and the South China Sea this year.

According to a statement published by the Hong Kong Observatory, "Dim Sum" was among nine new names introduced to the list, with others including "Koki", "Gaeguri", "Hebi", "Tomo", "Burapha" and "Hoaban".

The forecaster said the new names would replace nine old ones, adding that they were endorsed by the Typhoon Committee under the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific and the World Meteorological Organization.

Spaniard Roberto Losada has officially been appointed as the new head coach of the SAR football team, the Football Association of Hong Kong, China (HKFA) announced on Friday.

The 49-year-old took charge of the SAR squad as interim boss in December, following the departure of former head coach Ashley Westwood.

Over the past six months, Losada led the team through their final AFC Asian Cup qualifying match against India, as well as the annual Guangdong-Hong Kong Cup.

Losada's official appointment comes as the SAR squad take on Mongolia in a friendly at Hong Kong Stadium on Friday.
