Tickets for an exhibition celebrating Hong Kong's classic police films were snapped up on its opening day.

"Yau Ma Tei Police Station: A Cinematic Journey" opened on Friday at the 103-year-old former station, allowing visitors to step into the golden era of iconic movies like Infernal Affairs.

The immersive display transforms the historic building with detailed recreations of a detective's office and armoury.

The biggest draw is the interactive tech, featuring an AI photo booth that generates personalised vintage movie posters.

Most people say they enjoyed the show, but some did say they hoped to stay longer as there's a 25-minute limit for each session of 20 people.

Around 40 people were killed and 115 injured when a fire ripped through a crowded bar during a New Year's Eve party in the upscale Swiss ski resort of Crans-Montana, officials said on Thursday.

Police said the fire broke out at 1.30am as revellers were celebrating in a bar called Le Constellation in the resort in southwestern Switzerland, which locals said was popular with teenagers.

Swiss President Guy Parmelin described the disaster as "one of the worst tragedies our country has ever known" and said most of the dead were young people.

The cause of the blaze, which was initially reported as an explosion, remained unclear but authorities said the fire appeared to be an accident rather than an attack.

An HSBC survey has found that those with HK$1 million could reach the HK$10 million milestone after about eight years.

It also said that one in 13 customers holds HK$10 million in liquid assets.

"The survey highlights a self-made majority: Not being born with silver spoon, nearly 70 percent of respondents built their wealth mainly through investments, own business’ profit, interest earnings and rental incomes," HSBC said in a statement.

The report also revealed that the middle-class liquid asset benchmark had risen sharply to HK$8.35 million.

The survey was conducted in November, and polled 2,018 local residents aged 25 to 64.

Robbers used a large drill to break into a German bank's vault room during the extended Christmas break and stole cash, gold and jewellery worth 30 million euros, police and the bank said on Tuesday.

The spectacular heist in the western city of Gelsenkirchen, North Rhine-Westphalia state, saw thieves smash open more than 3,000 safe deposit boxes and make off with the loot.

According to police, the robbers drilled their way into the underground vault room of the Sparkasse bank from a parking garage.

The bank said the branch was "broken into over the Christmas holidays" and that "more than 95 percent of the 3,250 customer safe deposit boxes were broken into by unknown perpetrators."

The government launched its second action plan on Tuesday aimed at eliminating viral hepatitis as a public health threat within the next five years.

To achieve this, the Health Bureau outlined four strategic directions: heightening awareness, tracking health sector response, preventing new infections and expanding access to screening, care and treatment.

A pilot risk-based hepatitis B screening program will begin next year through the Chronic Disease Co-Care Pilot Scheme.

According to Assistant Commissioner for Primary Healthcare Christy Lam, district health centres will serve as hubs, coordinating with family doctors to provide screening and long-term management.

The defense ministry said on Monday that joint drills launched by the People's Liberation Army (PLA) served as a stern warning to separatist forces advocating "Taiwan independence" and to external interference.

Zhang Xiaogang, a spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, made the remarks in response to media reports that the "Justice Mission 2025" drills were related to the recent US announcement of a large arms sales plan to Taiwan.

"We urge relevant countries to abandon the illusion of using Taiwan to contain China, and to refrain from challenging China's resolve in safeguarding its core interests," Zhang said, who also warned Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party authorities that any attempt to seek "Taiwan independence" by relying on external forces is doomed to fail.

On day two of the exercises, ground forces of the PLA Eastern Theater Command conducted long-range live fire drills in the waters to the north of Taiwan.

Authorities said the drills achieved "desired effects".

People in China are meeting others and making friends in “mysterious” settings.

“Blind box meals” are all the rage these days, where people dine with complete strangers and expand their social circles.

Experts say that's in line with the development of an experience-driven economy across the country.

This has also led to a boom in the number of platforms tapping into the phenomenon, along with other business opportunities.
