🇭🇷 VUČIĆ SPEAKS AGAIN ABOUT CROATIA: OLUJA, THE “SECOND HALF” & SERBIA’S MESSAGE
On August 4, 2026, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić again addressed Operation Storm (Oluja) and Croatia.
🌩️ OPERATION STORM
Vučić called Oluja a “crime” and accused Croatia of misleading the international community about the events of 1995.
He also said that Serbia would never again permit a similar expulsion of Serbs.
⚽ THE “SECOND HALF” REMARK
Vučić said he had heard people talking about waiting for a “second half” — “drugo poluvreme.”
His response:
“We ask them not to wait for the second half.”
At the same time, Vučić stressed that Serbia wants peace and good relations.
🇭🇷 His remarks prompted sharp reactions from Croatian politicians, particularly because of the language surrounding a possible “second half.”
The disagreement reflects the very different narratives that continue to surround Operation Storm and the wars of the 1990s.
For Croatia, Operation Storm was the decisive 1995 military operation that restored Croatian government control over most of the territory held by rebel Serb forces. Croatia celebrates August 5 as Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day and Croatian Veterans Day.
For Serbia, Vučić and other Serbian officials continue to emphasize the flight and suffering of Serb civilians associated with the operation.
🕊️ More than three decades later, Croatia and Serbia still sharply disagree over how the events of 1995 should be remembered and described.
Peace and good relations require serious dialogue — especially when discussing history that remains deeply sensitive on both sides.
