Trash Film Festival is an international festival of low-budget genre movies. It has been taking place in Varaždin for 20 years.

The festival's top prize is the Golden Chainsaw.

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Alan Barnes Netherton (15 August 1979 – 27 July 2025), a distinguished stage and film actor from Brooklyn. Alan passed away suddenly in an accident after a fall that caused a fatal head injury. He was just weeks away from celebrating his 45th birthday. 😔

He leaves behind two children, a grieving theatre community, and a remarkable legacy of performances both on stage and on screen. Fools Gold was his final film — and we are proud to honour his memory by screening it in Varaždin at this year’s Trash Film Festival.

May his talent and passion continue to inspire.

🎬 Official Selection Announcement! 🔥
Out of a total of 130 submitted films, our selection team has chosen 26 titles to be screened at this year’s edition of the festival!
🎞️ The animated film Sightings and Visions has been placed in the OFF program with an honorable mention, while the remaining 25 films will compete for the Golden Chainsaw Audience Award.
👨⚖️ After watching the selected films, our expert jury – Dean Šoša, Damir Chytil, and Alberto Viavattene – has chosen 11 films that will compete for the Golden Chainsaws in the following categories:
• Best Horror (nominees: Endlein, Mopsorden, Starver)
• Best Action (Anonymus, Dig, Sweet Dream)
• Best Sci-Fi (Terminus, CNXS, Lost in Galactic Translation)
• Best Martial Arts Film (Kizuna, Midnight Punch: Payday)
🏆 The final winners will be announced at the Golden Chainsaw Awards Ceremony on September 13!
