🎓 Day 3, the final day of the 2nd PUBMET2025 Summer School brought thoughtful reflection, practical insights, and a strong finish to an inspiring event!

Here’s what we explored today:
🌍 Equality, diversity, and inclusion in research and publishing - Shelly Pranić led an engaging session on integrating EDI principles into every level of the research process

📖 Academic publishing essentials - Jadranka Stojanovski offered expert advice on journal selection, Open Access, and building a strong author profile

💡 Finding project opportunities - Dejana Carić and Dario Lečić introduced funding paths for early-career researchers via the Croatian Science Foundation

⚖️ Work-life balance in academia - Aleksandra Stevanović facilitated a reflective and practical session on creating healthier boundaries and sustainable work rhythms

📚 Day 2 of the Summer School offered a rich programme of lectures and workshops:

• 🔢 Quantitative research methodology – Ivan Buljan led sessions on reproducibility and statistical analysis using JASP
• ✍️ Academic writing and 🧾 Publication integrity – Joan Marsh provided practical guidance on manuscript preparation and ethical publishing practices
• 🤖 Generative AI tools and ethics – Goran Mauša and Iva Grabarić Andonovski discussed responsible use of AI in research
• 📨 Responding to editors’ and reviewers’ comments – Mario Malički shared strategies for navigating the peer review process

We now look ahead to Day 3, the final day of the Summer School. 🎓✨

📚 Yesterday we kicked off the Summer School with an inspiring start!

The School was officially opened by Ksenija Baždarić and Iva Grabarić Andonovski, setting the stage for three days dedicated to scholarly communication and open science.

Day one featured two engaging sessions that sparked thoughtful discussion and hands-on learning:
🔹 a lecture-workshop on preregistration of studies, reproducibility, and data sharing by Asst Prof Ivan Buljan,
🔹 and a practical workshop on qualitative research methodology by Asst Prof Alica Kolarić, focusing on tools like MAXQDA, LiGRE, and Taguette for coding and analyzing textual data. 🔍💬

We’re now heading into Day 2, excited for more learning, collaboration, and exchange of ideas. 🎉

🌟 Meet Dario Lečić - Speaker at the 2nd PUBMET Summer School! 🌟

We’re delighted to welcome Dario, Senior Advisor at the Croatian Science Foundation (HRZZ), to the 2nd PUBMET Summer School! 🎉

With an MA in English Language and Linguistics and a PhD in Slavonic Linguistics, Dario brings a strong background in language and communication to his work on monitoring project impact. He is actively involved in science communication initiatives and regularly organizes science popularization activities. 🗣️🔬

He is also the National Contact Point for the European Research Council (ERC) for Croatia, supporting research excellence and visibility at the European level. 🇪🇺📢

🌟 Meet Shelly M. Pranić - Speaker at the 2nd PUBMET Summer School! 🌟

We’re excited to welcome Shelly Pranić, to the 2nd PUBMET Summer School! 🎉

With a strong background in patient-centered research, Shelly is actively involved in community-based projects that tackle critical issues in clinical trial methodology and health communication. Her current work focuses on racial, ethnic, and linguistic underrepresentation in clinical trials, as well as media literacy in health reporting. 🧑‍⚕️🗞️

Her projects aim to identify actionable factors to improve trial representation and enhance the reporting of health-related information, supporting better decision-making for both clinicians and patients. 🌍📊

We’re happy to welcome Dejana, Head of the Department for Monitoring Project Impact at the Croatian Science Foundation (HRZZ), to the 2nd PUBMET Summer School! 🎉

With a background in biotechnology, Dejana is actively involved in shaping and implementing Open Science policies in Croatia. She represents HRZZ in the Science Europe Working Group on Open Science and Research Culture, contributing to broader efforts to foster transparency, collaboration, and responsible research practices across Europe. 🌍🔬

🌟 Meet Goran Mauša - Speaker at the 2nd PUBMET Summer School! 🌟

We’re excited to welcome Goran, computer scientist and Associate Professor at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Rijeka, to the 2nd PUBMET Summer School! 🎉

As Head of the Computer Science Department, Goran focuses his research on machine learning, optimization algorithms, and generative AI—especially in applications related to peptides, environmental engineering, software engineering, and robotics. 🤖📊

His groundbreaking work on a generative AI model for discovering self-assembling peptides was recently published in Nature Machine Intelligence. He has participated in 20 research projects, supervised over 50 theses, and received Croatia’s national award for research excellence in 2022. 🧬🏆

🌟 Meet Aleksandra Stevanović - Speaker at the 2nd PUBMET Summer School! 🌟

We’re pleased to welcome Aleksandra, clinical psychologist, psychotherapist, and assistant professor at the University of Rijeka, to the 2nd PUBMET Summer School! 🎉

Aleksandra teaches mental health and communication skills at the Faculty of Health Studies and the Faculty of Medicine. Alongside her academic work, she is a practicing clinician at the Department of Psychological Medicine, Clinic of Psychiatry, Clinical Hospital Rijeka. 🧠💬

She is also engaged in several Erasmus+ projects focused on cooperation between organizations and institutions, bringing valuable experience in cross-sector collaboration and mental health education. 🌍🤝

🌟 Meet Iva Grabarić Andonovski – Speaker at the 2nd Summer School! 🌟

We’re excited to welcome Iva Grabaric Andonovski, Editor of the diamond open access journal Food Technology and Biotechnology, to the 2nd PUBMET Summer School! 🎉

With over 20 years of experience in scholarly publishing, Iva has developed deep expertise in editorial workflows - from peer review and editorial policies to metadata management, persistent identifiers, and promoting research visibility. 📝🔗

She is a co-founder and current President of CROASC, member of the HRČAK Advisory Board, Vice President of EASE, Chair of the Croatian Regional Chapter, Co-Chair of the Environment and Sustainability Committee, and part of the OPERAS SIG on Best Practices. 🌍📚

Her current work focuses on best practices in diamond open access and promoting sustainability in scholarly communication.

🌟 Meet Alica Kolarić – Speaker at the 2nd Summer School! 🌟

We’re pleased to welcome Alica Kolarić, Assistant Professor at the University of Zadar’s Department of Information Sciences, to the 2nd PUBMET Summer School! 🎉

With an academic background spanning philosophy, comparative literature, library and information science, and a PhD in Social Sciences (Information and Communication Sciences), Alica brings rich interdisciplinary insight into information behavior and literacy. 📖💡

Her research focuses on qualitative methodology, youth information behavior, library services for diverse user groups, and human information needs. She is an active member of the IFLA Standing Committee for Libraries for Children and Young Adults, and contributes to European projects such as OPERAS PLUS and GEDIS. 🌍📚
