On May 12, 2026, the Sinfonieorchester Liechtenstein (SOL) will premiere the 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐃𝐨𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐎𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚 composed by Ivan Baumans for Marc André . Both musicians are winners of the International Classical Music Awards. The concert will be repeated on May 13.
Luxembourgish composer and conductor Ivan Boumans won the ICMA Composer Award in 2020. His catalogue of works contains more than 170 pieces of several music styles going from chamber music works, film music or symphonic pieces. His works have been performed all through Europe, USA, China and Russia, by ensembles like the Luxembourg Philharmonic the Sinfonieorchester Liechtenstein or the Orchestre National de France.
Recognised as one of the most promising double bassists of our time, Marc André brings a completely new approach to his instrument by exploring the soloistic capabilities. He won the ICMA Classeek Award in 2024.
Subsequently ICMA President Remy Franck invited both artists to collaborate for a new Double Bass Concerto which is to be premiered by Sinfonieorchester Liechtenstein conducted by Sebastian Lang-Lessing.
Ivan Boumans says: "It is for me an honour to be part of this adventure, but also a big responsibility. Unfortunately there are not many concertos for Double Bass in the repertoire. This captivating instrument has always scared composers... I'm taking on this challenge!"
Marc André says: “I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to bring a new concerto for double bass to life with Ivan Boumans and the Sinfonieorchester Liechtenstein. This collaboration reflects my mission to expand the expressive and soloistic possibilities of the double bass, and I am honored that a devoted private patron has made it possible for us to share this music with audiences in Liechtenstein and beyond.”
