Media Elle is an inspiring grassroots organisation in Haiti that provides technical training for women in rural communities on audiovisual production. They are fighting the stereotypes and discrimination that keep women underrepresented in the audiovisual industry, help women believe in their own potential, and give them tools to promote women’s rights through their videos.
Dieula Jean Louis, filmmaker and Media Elle’s coordinator says that, like most grassroots organisations, they provide solutions to issues in their communities that others are not addressing. Their work is undoubtedly important. But, like most grassroots organisations, they are financially and structurally weak. They don’t receive enough funding or support.
Dieula encourages donors to turn their eyes to local grassroots organisations, providing more funding and closer accompaniment to help them build skills and become stronger.
