I am not an ambitious person.

I’ve always set the bar a little lower than I knew I could acchieve. Never had sharp elbows. I worked hard, but I never really wanted to win. Never wanted to be the best. What even is the best?

I just wanted to belong.

And that’s what I’ve had to work hardest for.

First belonging to an industry, a scene, a trend, or a crowd.

And later realising none of that mattered to me and then started working ln belonging to the most relevant of all: myself.

I’m not ambitious.

But not being ambitious has never meant not working hard. Now I just hard for very different reasons.

A follower sent me a post yesterday that looked… familiar.

It was my post.
Just translated into another language.

When I commented, I was blocked.

This isn’t the first time my content has been copied and probably won’t be the last but I wanted to talk about one thing.

This isn’t about one post. It’s about something bigger: the difference between inspiration and copying.

The posts that resonate most with people come from lived experiences. The reason my original post connected with so many musicians and was shared over a 1000 times is because it reflected real experiences many of us women have had in the classical music world.

Musicians really don’t need to copy content.

Your story is more valuable than someone else’s idea.

Instagram rewards good content with visibility.

Regardless of how many followers you have.

The same should go for the people who hire us: they shouldn’t look at follower count.

They should look at how many of those followers are:
1. engaging regularly
2. converting into real-life audiences

Because Instagram doesn’t pay the bills.
But it can help you promote the thing that does.

Take a seat 🪑

Most of the things we regret are things we didn’t do at all. Or things we worried about for no reason.

So what if you gave yourself some slack?

You might have made some of these mistakes yourself, or you might be in the midst of them right now. There is a way out.

Get out of your own repetitive thoughts.

Get out of the practice room and go socialise.

Get out of the idea that you’re not worthy of a strong social media presence.

Only you can make these chances and I am right here rooting for you 🙂

Nostalgia trends got me thinking about all those videos I’ve deleted because I didn’t want anyone to judge me or my imperfect cellism.

It’s really sad. Because in the end, it isn’t about imperfections at all, it’s about the fear of being seen.

I talk about this a lot with my clients.

Everyone wants followers, but nobody wants to show up vulnerable.

Everyone wants an audience, but nobody wants to let go of the fear of being judged.

So here’s a thought for you:

Who do you actually want to follow you?

People whose judgment you’re terrified of?

Or people who truly see you, understand you, and recognise the beauty and vision you bring, people who see you as a valuable and inspiring human?

I’ve learned that the more real I show up on here and in the real world, the more I attract the people I actually want in my life.
