I tried the cigar in the early afternoon, when the rhythm of the day had already slowed down, but the evening still seemed far away. This time frame was the perfect opportunity to enjoy a moment of self-indulgence with a cup of espresso and the company of the Essenze Habano Churchill Gaia.

Essenze is a Hungarian brand, which in itself makes it a rarity. Péter Füzi’s work pays homage to the traditions of cigar-making while bringing a fresh, modern perspective to the market. The Gaia perfectly reflects this duality: it’s refined yet full of intriguing details.

Holding the cigar, I immediately noticed the oily sheen and silky texture of the Habano wrapper. Its medium-brown hue harmoniously complemented the cigar’s classic, understated appearance. The dry aroma was a delicate blend of roasted nuts, mild cocoa, and a touch of woody character—all promising a delightful beginning.

In the first third, the flavors unfolded gently: roasted nuts and toasted coffee dominated, accompanied by a creamy texture. The full, slightly bitter taste of the espresso paired perfectly with this initial profile.

By the second third, the flavors deepened, and spicier notes emerged. Nutmeg and clove subtly framed the coffee and nutty foundations, while the retrohale revealed nutty and citrusy nuances. For me, this phase was the highlight of the smoking experience, as Gaia’s flavors truly showcased their complexity and richness.

In the final third, the cigar became bolder, with earthy and cocoa notes coming to the forefront, complemented by a mild peppery spiciness. The flavors gradually intensified but maintained their balance, making the conclusion harmonious and satisfying.

Gaia stands out not only for its flavor profile but also for its technical ex*****on. The burn remained consistent throughout, requiring no relighting, and the ash held firm. The draw was just right—not too tight, not too loose.

The Essenze Habano Churchill Gaia, Péter Füzi’s vision, strikes a perfect balance between tradition and modernity, evident in every layer of this cigar. It offers an experience not only for seasoned smokers but also for those just beginning to explore the world of ci**rs. With its complex flavor profile, aesthetic craftsmanship, and flawless construction, it provides a truly memorable experience.

Budapest in December feels like the set of an old movie. The sparkling lights, the spicy aroma of mulled wine, and the bustling crowds create the perfect backdrop for the Advent season. Yesterday, after a tiring day, my friend Danny and I decided to treat ourselves to some relaxation at the Opera Trafik Cigar Lounge. The promise of the evening lingered in the air, much like the glow of Advent candles on a December night.

Danny held an Essenze Habano in his hand, while I prepared to indulge in an Arturo Fuente Hemingway Best Seller. The first puffs of smoke filled the room as the ci**rs slowly came to life. The quiet atmosphere and friendly conversation were soon interrupted by the arrival of three strangers—a lady and two gentlemen entered the room. There was something peculiar about their arrival, as if the invisible hand of Advent had guided them to our table.

They spoke English, turning the evening into an international affair. The lady lit a cigar for the first time in her life. With the expertise and enthusiasm of a true connoisseur, Danny shared his passion for ci**rs. The conversation covered a range of topics related to ci**rs and the experience of smoking them, with little mention of work. I observed as the stories and traditions intertwined, binding us together. The cigar smoke didn’t just hover around us—it seemed to weave invisible threads that connected us.

The Essenze Habano in Danny’s hand burned confidently, as if it knew it was the anchor of the evening. Meanwhile, my Arturo Fuente Hemingway revealed new layers with each puff—like a melody that grew richer with every note. But the night wasn’t really about the ci**rs. The essence of the evening lay in those rare moments when strangers become familiar, and the atmosphere wraps around the group like a shared warmth.

By the time our ci**rs had turned to ash, the evening had already transformed into a memory. During Advent, such moments are cherished even more deeply. It’s these small instances of magic that give true meaning to the holidays. As we said goodbye, we promised to meet again if they ever returned to Budapest. Perhaps in the same spot, with different ci**rs—but the same stories and spirit.

It was a cool late October afternoon, fitting for the season, when the air was slightly crisp yet enchantingly fresh, with the final quiet melody of the fading autumn lingering in the atmosphere. The leaves glowed in golden hues, signaling the last moments of the passing season. On this day, accompanied by a silky espresso and a good conversation with a friend, I took in hand the LUJ Morpheus Anniversary Lancero cigar, which exuded elegance even in its appearance. The long, slender body of the cigar was wrapped in a gold-and-white band, discreetly nodding to its anniversary nature, captivating with the understated brilliance that luxury offers.

The special characteristics of the Lancero format — a slimmer body and longer burn time — promised a smoking experience to be savored slowly, with attention. As I lit the cigar, the first draw immediately revealed the dominance of the wrapper’s character: earthy, leathery aromas that evenly spread through the smoke. The cigar began with balance, offering subtle peppery notes, never overpowering — instead, gently present to gradually prepare the way for deeper flavors.

As the smoke slowly swirled in the cool autumn air, the second third brought forth sweeter, softer aromas. The spicy, peppery opening was smoothly complemented by caramel and nut flavors, while hints of vanilla and cocoa subtly appeared in the background. The rich flavors of the accompanying espresso harmonized perfectly with the cigar, its creamy sweetness enhancing the Lancero’s earthy and sweet layers.

The cigar’s slow burn allowed each puff to reveal another aspect of the complexity of its flavors. Sitting on the terrace, warmed by the heat lamp, the contrast between the warmth of the cigar and the chill of the air created a unique experience. Every puff exposed a deeper layer of this elegant Lancero.

In the final third, the cigar closed with refined yet decisive restraint: the leathery and earthy notes returned, deeper and more complex than at the beginning, while the spices and sweeter tones blended together in a velvety finish.

This cigar is a true masterpiece for those who appreciate sophistication and attention to detail. The deep flavor profile and long, slow burn offered by the Lancero format make it a perfect companion for a reflective, intimate moment. As the sun set and the cigar slowly came to an end, the LUJ Morpheus Anniversary Lancero reminded me that the best experiences are those savored with patience and full attention.

On the last day spent in Cyprus, amidst the sound of the crashing waves, I bid farewell to this Mediterranean island in the company of my friend, Varga Dániel, and the remarkable, traditionally shaped Cuaba cigar. This moment was a fitting culmination of my time there, as the sophistication and rich flavor profile of the Cuaba cigar perfectly harmonized with the seaside atmosphere.

Cuaba itself is special, embodying the old, traditional shapes of Cuban cigar making, and this nostalgic elegance is reflected in the cigar’s appearance. The hand-rolled Cuban masterpiece is almost a work of art, showcasing the expertise and passion of the cigar makers.

From the very first puff, I was immediately struck by the cigar's earthy yet sweet aroma. As I tasted it, rich earthy tones emerged, beautifully blending with subtle leathery notes and a hint of spiciness. The delicate balance of flavors embodied an experience that was both grounded and uplifting—much like Cyprus itself.

The cigar’s smoke was silky and creamy, which I inhaled slowly and deeply, savoring Cuaba’s slow burn. As the cigar unfolded, deeper woody and nutty notes appeared, gradually spreading throughout my palate, while the burn remained even and steady. This carefully balanced flavor profile allowed for a long and immersive enjoyment.

As the sun’s rays danced on the water’s surface, the Cuaba cigar slowly came to its end, serving as a worthy conclusion to the days spent in Cyprus. The scent of smoke mingled with the sea air, as if the cigar itself was saying farewell. With the final puffs, the intensity of the cigar increased but never became overwhelming; the Cuaba maintained its elegance and refinement all the way through to the end.

This cigar was a worthy companion for a special moment as I said goodbye to Cyprus.

The taste of sunshine was still lingering on my skin, while the cooling memory of the seaside breeze remained with me. I sat down on the terrace of Café Paris & Bakery to rest from the pleasant fatigue of a day at the beach. The sound of the ocean waves still echoed in my ears when I pulled out a Vegueros cigar.

From the very first glance, the cigar’s perfectly smooth, silky wrapper caught my eye. The intricate weaving of the leaves and the meticulous hand-rolling immediately revealed that it was a quality piece. Its deep brown color evoked a rich, earthy aroma, and as I turned it between my fingers, the sunlight glinted off it, as if a tiny ray of Cuban sunshine had been trapped inside.

With the first puff, I could already sense how the cigar's bold, spicy aroma slowly filled the air. The smoke drifted smoothly upward, as if the wind itself were painting it across the sky. The curious cat that had been circling my legs paused for a moment to sniff the Vegueros' scent with dignified approval. Perhaps even it recognized the cigar’s refinement…

From the first draw, I immediately tasted the unfolding of a rich flavor profile. The Vegueros started with a mild spiciness, followed by sweet honeyed notes. It was as if I could taste the salty breeze of the ocean and the depth of Cuban soil with every puff. In the middle third, the earthy, woody tones grew stronger, accented with a hint of leather, delivering a perfectly balanced experience.

The Vegueros is not just a cigar that offers the pleasure of smoking, but one that brings with it a moment of Cuba’s scent, taste, and atmosphere. I recommend it to anyone who seeks the essence of authentic Cuban ci**rs but also enjoys lightness without sacrificing depth.

The gentle murmur of the Mediterranean Sea and the freshness of the salty air subtly fill the terrace of the Körfez seaside restaurant. The Punch 5 Triunfos rests between my fingers like a classic from the old Cuban to***co plantations.

The cigar’s dark, velvety wrapper instantly evokes the rich hues of to***co leaves ripened under the Cuban sun. As the first flame flickers, the smoke begins to swirl softly, enveloping the space with its fragrance. From the first puff, the cigar’s aromas immediately come to life: a refined yet intense Cuban character, where a sweet earthiness blends with the deep, rich flavors of roasted nuts and dried fruits. This flavor profile instantly captivates and transports you to the Caribbean landscapes where the to***co leaves slowly, patiently absorb the scent of moist soil and warm sun rays.

In the first third, the Punch 5 Triunfos presents that iconic Cuban flavor profile that has made the brand so beloved: it strikes a balance between earthy and spicy notes. Sweet molasses and the deep tones of roasted coffee beans gently mix with cedarwood undertones, as the cigar unfolds gracefully, yet assertively. The famously rich aroma of Cuban ci**rs appears in full glory here, but with a touch of restraint.

As the cigar reaches the second third, the deeper, more passionate notes of the Cuban terroir come to the forefront. The rich woody and earthy aromas are paired with a subtle peppery finish, creating a character that’s bold but never overpowering. Alongside the unmistakable softness of Cuban to***co, the sweet, slightly caramelized flavors of dried fruits, particularly prunes and raisins, become more prominent. At this stage, the Punch 5 Triunfos reveals deeper layers, with each draw offering a new flavor to be discovered.

Upon reaching the final third, the essence of Cuban ci**rs unfolds fully. The spicy notes mellow, giving way to the creamy, rich aromas of cocoa and dark chocolate, while a delicate, lingering coffee finish closes the cigar’s narrative. The flavor profile in this stage is silky smooth yet intense, a reminder that the Punch 5 Triunfos is a true masterpiece of the Cuban to***co world.

This cigar embodies a deep respect for Cuban traditions and the harmonious unity of flavors. For those who seek the art of cigar smoking as a slow, sensual exploration, the Punch 5 Triunfos is the perfect choice, where all the subtleties of Cuban to***co culture can be fully savored.

We wrapped up this afternoon on the magical shores of Cyprus, on the terrace of the Seasons. The softly drifting waves of the endless sea, the gentle caress of the Mediterranean breeze, and the golden sunlight created the perfect backdrop for me to enjoy a My Father Le Bijou 1922 Petit Robusto cigar. The rich, spicy aromas and deep, earthy tones of the cigar gifted me with a new experience with each puff, while the rich, velvety flavors of Turkish coffee blended harmoniously with them.

The coffee, which I sipped slowly, further highlighted the cigar's bold, woody, and nutty notes, and the interplay of flavors was a true indulgence for the senses. The experience truly unfolded in the seaside tranquility, under the gentle sunlight. The cigar burned perfectly, its smoke drifting slowly through the air as if trying to preserve the moment forever.

The quiet presence of sunbathing women in our company, with the blue sea in the background, only enhanced this idyllic moment. This afternoon, where nature and calm met in perfect balance, celebrated the beauty of the moment with every taste and scent.

Sitting on the terrace of the Random Bistro, gazing at the open humidor, I began to eye one of the potential candidates after a brief visual survey. After another second and a half of contemplation, "Alea iacta est!"—meaning "The die is cast"—escaped my lips, to the astonishment of my table companions. I hadn't intended to say it aloud, but it slipped out. Thus, my choice fell on the J.C. Newman Diamond Crown Julius Caeser cigar.

The Diamond Crown Julius Caeser cigar is a creation steeped in deep-rooted family traditions. From the moment you hold the cigar, you immediately sense the elegance and respect for tradition that defines this piece. What makes this cigar special is not just the tradition and craftsmanship behind it but also the fact that each stick is born out of a reverence for the past and a commitment to innovation.

The cigar’s brown, satin-finished wrapper is as smooth as Italian marble, with the meticulous hand-rolling so perfect that the seams are almost invisible, as if nature itself had shaped it.

The cigar band is impressive and regal. The harmony of gold and light blue exudes a subtle elegance that perfectly complements the full-bodied character of the cigar.

The Julius Caeser cigar is a medium-strength yet complex piece, wrapped in an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, with a Dominican binder and fillers from Central America and the Caribbean.

The flavors are promising even during the cold draw, where notes of cedar, cocoa, and black pepper can be detected.

When lit, the Julius Caeser awakens gently but decisively, like an old, wise friend greeting you: Ave!
The first third's rich, creamy smoke indulges the senses. Cedar, creamy notes, and fresh grass dominate, followed by an expanded flavor profile in the second third with black pepper, chocolate, and dried fruits, including raisins. In the final third, the flavors deepen, with black coffee, toast, and leathery notes taking over, while the pepper remains present. The overall cigar experience is a rich, well-balanced medium-strength smoke with a long and aromatic finish. This cigar delivers exactly what its name promises: sophistication and depth.

Each puff is a step back in time into Julius Caeser Newman's legacy, while simultaneously reflecting the elegance and sophistication of modern times. This cigar is not only a treasure for collectors but a must-have for any true cigar aficionado, inviting discovery over and over again.

It's also worth mentioning that the history of the Diamond Crown Julius Caeser cigar pays tribute to J.C. Newman Cigar Company's founder, Julius Caeser Newman, whose name was mistakenly recorded this way due to an administrative error during his immigration to the United States. Thus, Caesar became Caeser—not a printing error, but a user error. The cigar was introduced in 2010, celebrating Newman's 135th birthday and the company's 115th anniversary. This cigar is produced at the Tabacalera A. Fuente factory, renowned for its artisanal methods, exceptional precision, and use of the finest quality ingredients.

As the calm of the late afternoon slowly settled in, I picked up the Oliva NUB Nuance Triple Roast cigar.

In those moments before lighting, as I touched and smelled the cigar, I immediately sensed that an exceptional moment awaited me. The cold aroma of the cigar was not just pleasant but distinctly inviting: it was as if the steaming scent of freshly brewed cappuccino or the delicate, nostalgic aroma of a Kapucíner chocolate surrounded me. This first encounter was already captivating, stirring curiosity about what else this cigar had to offer.

The moment of ignition was when the true character of the cigar unfolded. The smoke, which slowly swirled around me, continued to carry that pleasantly sweet, roasted coffee-infused scent that I had also noticed during the cold draw. The smoke was thick and creamy, lingering long in my mouth, pleasantly caressing my taste buds. The first puff was both velvety and full-bodied, with notes in the smoke evoking the richness of perfectly roasted coffee, a hint of chocolate sweetness, and the flavor of roasted hazelnuts hidden in the background. As the cigar began to burn slowly, its flavors deepened and became more complex, with each draw revealing new layers of harmonious yet unexpectedly vibrant taste notes.

This cigar perfectly embodies the essence of NUB ci**rs: the short but thick format quickly reaches the heart of the cigar, offering immediate intensity and fullness. The Triple Roast variant, as its name suggests, is like a drink made from triple-roasted coffee beans—deep and complex, yet softly soothing. The harmonious balance of sweet and roasted notes, occasionally spiced up with a hint of spiciness, makes it a perfect choice to accompany a morning coffee or to close the day when we crave the taste of cappuccino but wish to avoid the caffeine.

As I slowly reached the end of the cigar, the sun had nearly disappeared from the horizon, yet the flavors of the NUB Nuance Triple Roast lingered with me for a long time.
