With the 10th and final EP in his self released vinyl and digital 0ktag0n series Alavux contemplates the meaning of the all too frequently used term ‘underground’ and arrives at a solid answer – Underground IS Resistance.
Undoubtedly this is borne out in his own musical output that not only resists the dilution of some electronic music to suit mainstream palettes but also respectfully resists trends or tired repetition within the underground itself.
In the broader sense though, this EP is built on the idea that true underground music and movements can do something different and unconstrained by commercial pressures or quests for popularity and still be respectful of others. It is possible to do the opposite of someone else without having to make them an enemy – surely a lesson for our times and an approach to life that in itself is a resistance of trends; pushing back on the encouragement to hate the unknown.
Art can be made without passing comment - it can just BE. That is how Alavux has always approached things – this is his sound, it is who he is and what he does. It is not seeking your approval, your permission, to compete, to criticise or to reject – it is a natural occurrence.
This four track EP distils all this into what the underground, the true and authentic underground, is about; total freedom of expression, individuality and using finely tuned sounds to both challenge and bring people together on a dark dancefloor somewhere – and it does so with uncompromising energy.
