Brand new Kolodko statue — just hours old!
Spotted moments ago near Liberty square, at the Hungarian National Bank / Hold utca corner: a tiny bronze worker blowing away worthless banknotes with a leaf blower, standing on a mat.
The timing (and the leaf blower!) is no accident — August 1st marks the 80th anniversary of the forint, introduced in 1946 right after the pengő's catastrophic hyperinflation. The exchange rate at launch? 1 forint = 4×10²⁹ pengő — that's a 4 followed by 29 zeros.
History's worst hyperinflation, literally blown away.
