An Endangered Primate You’ve Probably Never Heard Of 🐒💚

High in the cloud forests of northern Peru lives a species found nowhere else on Earth, the Yellow-Tailed Woolly Monkey (Lagothrix flavicauda). 🐒
Once thought to be extinct, it was rediscovered in 1974. Today, it’s critically endangered due to deforestation, hunting, and the loss of its habitat. 🌳💔
Organizations like Yunkawasi and local communities are working to protect this species and restore the forest that sustains it.
💚 Protecting this monkey means protecting the life of Peru’s Andean-Amazonian ecosystems.

En los bosques nublados del norte del Perú habita una especie única en el planeta: el Mono Choro de Cola Amarilla (Lagothrix flavicauda). 🐒
Se creyó extinto hasta que fue redescubierto en 1974. Hoy está en peligro crítico debido a la deforestación, la caza y la pérdida de su hábitat. 🌳💔
Gracias al trabajo de Yunkawasi y las comunidades locales, aún hay esperanza para su conservación.
