'Riddle' from Artùr Harànt S 9 T X E new print series.

The mythological background of these pictures in the series is the same what was the point of the original mythologies: A symbolic description of nature. They are made of the same material that dreams are made of. This has become dead material over time - as Károly Kerényi said - like the sheet music, which doesn't sound as music in itself, only when it's played by musician. Artúr tried to play this dead material as living music.

Limited edition prints, every print is signed and numbered by the artist.
Made with Riso in 3 colors / Sunflower, Blue, Bright Red /
A3 size.

About the print:

New Riddle
The ancient Greek Sphinx receding lived on the border between nature and cultivated land, between Natura and Cultura. That’s it standing on columns imitating wheat. In the well-known story of Oedipus, the Sphinx lived next to the city and asked a riddle to those who were going in and out of the city, and if they couldn’t answer, the sphinx strangled them.

“What walks on four legs in the morning, two legs at noon, and three legs in the evening?” said the riddle. The answer to the riddle was “man”, which Oedipus deciphered, thus destroying the sphinx. Ironically, he gave the answer well, but he didn’t understand what to do with the answer: Even if someone knows that they are human, if they don’t know their past, then their future will also be lost in the fog.

Humanity has never known nature at such a sophisticated level as it is now. Yet it’s like nature a complete stranger to them. The boundary between Cultura and Natura has never been so sharp and the new Sphinx is already towering over us and ready to strangle us if we cannot solve its new challenges.

About the print:

Kiméra Bávatag

Monsters in many mythologies are creatures of ancient times. Their legs, head, arms, eyes are partly human like, partly animal like and partly divine and they sometimes have only one of them sometimes even a thousand. They are chaotic beings, but they have the seed of order within them. They are by the border of shape and shapelessness.

That is why they are the guards of borders, such as the sphinx at doors or gargoyles on churches, or Cerberus at the gate of underworld. Gibberish is also something similar, as Karinthy’s - Hungarian author - famous mumbo jumbo “Kisera mera bavatag” because we may as well interpret it if we really want to, as it contains such words in which the rate of vowels and consonants is organised by similar harmony, in spite of the fact that, it doesn’t actually mean anything; or like in Lewis Carroll’s poem, “Jabberwocky”. Our speech tone is such a play of our lungs and oral cavity that has its own meaning without the meaning of words.

Sounds, like stem cells, bear the evolution and formation of many pre-destined words whose meaning has not been defined yet just the way as legs, head, arms, or eyes can be formed of stem cells.

Új print folyamatban!! :)

Következő A3-as riso printem BP zinesnél ez lesz. Első 4 színnyomásos printem lesz, amolyan kamu CMYK nyomás, fluorescent pink, yellow, aqua és medium blue színekkel

Szépen halad a kódex fanzin/art-book, amit mostanában szerkesztgetek.

"Minden alak ugyanaz, s egymással mégsem egyenlő;
egy titkos törvényt rejt az egész sokaság:
szent, nagy rejtvényt. Ó, bár tudnám, drága barátnőm,
rögtön a megfejtést is bemutatni neked."

"Rengeteg" is from Artùr Harànt's S 9 T X E new series.

About the print: Rengeteg

In Hungarian “rengeteg” literally means “a lot”, but it means “big and deep forest” too as a noun. The word’s root “reng-” means “shake” or “quake”. It’s really hard to translate it to just one word that expresses the same meaning. This painting is a selfless self-portrait in a moment when I lost my “self” in a forest for a short time during one of my psychedelic trips.
