📖🌎Factions of the World of Duskrunners: Olympus 🌋

A city-state built atop the region’s greatest mountain, Olympus stands as a fortress against the long night. Vast defensive systems protect its people, who call it “the Last City”, believing others merely survive in primitive villages.

🌄The mountain itself is an overcrowded megalopolis: mines carved deep into its core are filled with people living in poverty, while the elite at the summit gaze over their domain. Surrounding lands are used for farming, though peasants must return to the city when night falls. Despite standing lowest in rank - denied the mountain’s constant safety - it is their work that sustains Olympus through the long nights.

A military powerhouse, Olympus commands pre-Cataclysm weapons and mechanical soldiers. For its citizens, exile from the mountain is the harshest punishment imaginable. ⚔

📖🌎Factions of the World of Duskrunners: Wildlings 🍃

The Wildlings live scattered across the world, surviving the long nights by retreating into underground bunkers, treetop shelters, or cleverly hidden huts. Whispers claim they bargain with Nightlings, offering terrible sacrifices to secure their safety. 🤫

As much as possible, they coexist with the horrors of the night and the beasts that roam the land. Among them, fragments of the Ancients’ knowledge endure - preserved in oral traditions, ancient scrolls, or religious beliefs. 📜

Step by step, the Wildlings roam the land, discovering relics overlooked by the researchers flying high above. These relics are often traded to both Ahura and Olympus. 🤝

They call themselves the "Freefolk". Though they lack rigid hierarchy, their many groups are bound together by a strong sense of kinship and belonging. 🫂

🐢Gloomshell 🛡

These turtle-like Nightlings lurk in damp regions, are infuriatingly difficult to kill. Blow after blow only drives them back into their thick armor. Their claws are sharp as blades and they are far quicker than expected. Only patience and cunning can outlast their bloodlust. 🧐

🦎Spitbeast🧪

No Nightling rivals the lizard-like Spitbeast in sheer treachery. From the cover of bushes or treetops, they hurl sizzling acid at their prey, fleeing like cowards until their victim collapses - only to return later to feed. 💀

Fight or flee - which would you choose?🤔

In raw strength, few Nightlings compares to these hulking, bull-like creatures. They charge with devastating force, crushing prey into the dirt before retreating - only to charge again and again until nothing remains but pulp. 🫣

🔧 Koral was born among the nomadic people of Ahura, skyfarers who worship science and knowledge. She traveled the world on their airships, but never cared much for higher sciences. Her true passion was tinkering - fixing, upgrading, or taking machines apart just to understand how they worked.

Her name, Koral, evokes reefs - safe havens where life thrives despite outside dangers - reflecting how Ahura airships avoid the night. ☁

Strong-willed and blunt, Koral points out others’ mistakes but works tirelessly to fix them. She became a Dusk Runner when her workshop ship drifted too deep into the night and crash-landed. Nightlings attacked quickly, leaving her the sole survivor. Now she remains in the dusk, away from those who might blame her for the accident.

To her fellow Dusk Runners, Koral embodies the Way of the Machine: the mastery, lore, and lifestyle of reconstructing and operating the Ancients’ complex machinery. ⚙

From his Freefolk ancestry, he carries rituals and odd habits, yet he isn’t bound by tradition. Always eager to try something new, his hunger for experience drew him into the endless dusk. Flint is cautious but not hostile - trust must be earned, not given.

To the Dusk Runners, he represents the Way of the Wind: guile, adaptability, and the art of slipping free from danger. 🍃

His name, Zenit, tied to the sun’s highest point, reflects the Olympian pursuit of success. ☀
