Nightfam! At just 19 years old, this white woman from Virginia did something that shocked America...
She sat shoulder-to-shoulder with Black students at segregated lunch counters.
She rode buses into the heart of the Jim Crow South.
She became the first white student at a Black college in Mississippi.
And for fighting against racism alongside her Black friends?
Her own family DISOWNED her.
The K*K THREATENED her life.
She was IMPRISONED for two months in the notorious Parchman Penitentiary.
This is Joan Trumpauer Mulholland – a woman who participated in over 50 sit-ins and demonstrations by her early twenties, and helped organize iconic moments like the Jackson Woolworth's Sit-in and the March on Washington.
But here's what truly makes Joan's story powerful:
When asked why she risked EVERYTHING, she simply said she couldn't stand by and watch the injustice anymore.
Nightfam, I've been thinking... Often, the greatest heroes aren't the ones born with special powers or privileges – they're ordinary people who choose to do what's right, even when it costs them everything.
What would you risk to stand up for what's right?
