Hidden from the chaos of Uluwatu’s booming nightlife, NOTTE emerges as a quiet, intimate cocktail bar designed for those craving a slower, more considered evening. It offers a rare reprieve – a space to pause, converse, and savour cocktails crafted with genuine passion.

Inspired by slow coffee bars, NOTTE applies the same thoughtful approach to its drinks. There’s no menu fanfare or loud music – just bespoke cocktails made on the spot, tailored to your mood, in a warmly lit room that invites you to linger.

Head Bartender Taketo Utsunomiya brings quiet precision to each pour, crafting classics, signatures, or entirely custom creations with care. Every ingredient is explained; every step is intentional.

With no DJs or events, NOTTE lets the cocktails speak for themselves. Locals, travellers, and hospitality folk have found comfort here – a grounded space in Bali’s nightlife, where you’re encouraged to slow down and simply enjoy the night.

🌾🐟 This July and August, two chefs bound by the same culinary heritage come together to present bespoke dining experiences at their respective restaurants. Highlighting Indonesian-inspired flavours and fresh, local produce, this two-part, four-hands dinner series is a journey from the farm to the sea.

At John Hardy Seminyak’s The Long Table, Chef Tomy Saputra presents regional Indonesian dishes with rustic refinement, while Chef Andrew Fahludza crafts a farm-to-table menu at Begawan Biji in Payangan.

The dining series begins on 25 and 26 July at Begawan Biji with the ‘Sawah’ edition. Guests will enjoy fresh produce, paddy eels, and emprit birds, with dishes like Brenebon soup, Iga Bakar, and banana blossom sautéed with smoked fish sambal.

On 7 and 8 August at John Hardy Seminyak, the chefs present sea-inspired dishes including Lumpia Laut, fire-grilled Lombok lobster with dabu-dabu, and coconut water seafood soup.

Nestled by the pristine shores of Nusa Dua, S**I celebrates its 1st anniversary this July with S**I MATSURI—a month-long celebration of food, art, music, and community. Inspired by Tanabata, the festival invites guests to write wishes on tanzaku and hang them on bamboo branches, transforming S**I into a constellation of dreams and gratitude.

The celebration began on 7 July with traditional performances, including Balinese dance, a Taiko Mini Concert by Taiko Club Koryu, and the Tanabata Tale shadow puppet show. The evening also featured a Tuna Ceremony, where Chef Vincent Hiew presented the Japanese art of Maguro Kaitai.

On 11 & 12 July, guests are invited to enjoy the launch of the S**I Cocktail Tasting Tray, paired with a Chef’s Tasting Menu and live music from Evony Arty & Friends and Music Box Trio.

The festival culminates on 26 July with a grand seaside finale, featuring live Taiko, Balinese performances, a DJ set, and fireworks. Find out more on: https://www.nowbali.co.id/siki-matsuri-siki-marks-1st-anniversary-with-a-month-of-flavours-culture-and-celebration/

📸 Long before Bali became a beloved tourist destination, it captivated the world through another medium: photography.

Just six years after the invention of photography in 1839, Balinese artefacts were already being documented in Jakarta, laying the foundation for a long visual fascination with the island.

Through this post, our contributor Sake Santema of Indies Gallery shares rare early photographs and the compelling history behind them, tracing the first known image of Balinese royalty in 1864 to the dawn of tourism in the early 1900s.

Taking place on 12 July (today) will be another 'tumpek' day.

Tumpek Kandang is a day dedicated to Sang Hyang Rare Angon, the god of all cattle and livestock. The scale of the rites depends on the number of animals owned by the family. The more a family owns, the grander the ceremony.

Traditionally, the most important ceremonies are found in the mountainous areas, whereas elsewhere a simple ceremony with few "banten" offerings will suffice.

At 1,745m above sea level sits Pura Puncak Penulisan, also called Pura Tegeh Kahuripan, one of Bali’s oldest temples, dating back to the bronze age 🥉 Its unique pyramidal design ascends seven terraces along a 300-step path, symbolising sapta loka, the seven upper realms of existence.

In the early morning, cool dew drips from pine needles, weaving a mist that cloaks Kintamani in an ethereal calm. Within the temple walls, among ancient artefacts and timeworn statues, a serene, almost haunting mysticism lingers.

Easily reached from Jalan Raya Kintamani, visitors can either hike the storied steps or drive a quiet back road straight to the temple’s entrance. From this sacred height, gaze east to witness Mt. Batur, Abang, and Agung layered on the horizon, truly a breathtaking panorama that once captivated kings…
