THE GIANT THAT MOVED MOUNTAINS. ⚒️

The P&H 2800XPB was part of a legendary line of electric mining shovels built for the demands of large-scale open-pit mining. The 2800 lineage began in the late 1960s, and the XPB generation carried that legacy forward with a roughly 44–46 yd³ dipper and a 130-ton rated load capacity.

Built for production, reliability, and long service life, machines like the 2800XPB helped define an era when electric rope shovels ruled the pit.

BIG BRUTUS — WHEN AMERICAN MINING ENGINEERING WAS BUILT BIG.

Standing 16 stories tall and weighing about 11 million pounds, Big Brutus was a Bucyrus-Erie 1850-B electric mining shovel built in the early 1960s.

Its 90-cubic-yard bucket could move up to 150 tons of material in a single scoop. After roughly a decade of service, Big Brutus was retired in 1974—but instead of being scrapped, this giant was preserved as a living piece of America’s mining history.

Today, it still stands in West Mineral, Kansas, reminding us just how massive the machines of the mining era could be.

With roots in the legendary LeTourneau/P&H large mining loader lineage, the WE2350 carries that legacy into the Komatsu era. Introduced under the Komatsu name after Komatsu’s acquisition of Joy Global in 2017, this giant was engineered to load ultra-class 400+ ton haul trucks.

Powered by 2,300 hp, the WE2350 can run a bucket of up to 53 yd³ and has a standard operating payload of up to 160,000 lb. At roughly 587,000 lb operating weight, this is not just a wheel loader—it’s a piece of mining history built to move mountains.
