PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. reminded police personnel to uphold integrity, discipline, professionalism, and accountability during the flag-raising ceremony on September 14.

According to official updates, he directed officers assigned to the first BARMM parliamentary elections to remain politically neutral, protect voters, and respect the electoral process. He urged them to help maintain peaceful, orderly, and credible elections.

Nartatez also stressed that police recruitment must be based on merit, qualifications, and integrity.

He recognized personnel supporting Unified 911, which marked its first anniversary on September 11. According to figures released by the PNP, 96.38% of the 86,614 incident calls it monitored received a response within five minutes during the system’s first year.

Public trust grows through everyday actions: helping someone in danger, treating voters fairly, and choosing qualified people to serve. These reminders become meaningful when communities experience consistent, respectful, and dependable policing.

According to news reports and his public statement, Senator Ping Lacson praised Defense Secretary Gilberto “Gibo” Teodoro Jr. for defending the Philippines’ position at the Seoul Defense Dialogue.

In a September 13 post, Lacson asked people to imagine a “President Gilbert Teodoro” alongside world leaders. He described the defense secretary as a “brilliant mind,” expressing admiration for his ability to represent the country internationally.

The remarks followed Teodoro’s response to a note from the Chinese side questioning the 2016 South China Sea arbitration ruling. Teodoro read the note aloud and defended the importance of international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

Lacson’s statement raised the idea of Teodoro as president. It was not an announcement of a presidential candidacy.

The exchange reminds us of the value of leaders who understand the issues and can explain their country’s position clearly. Defending national interests calls for knowledge, courage, and responsible diplomacy that protects both our rights and the possibility of peace.

The remains of two Filipino seafarers who died in an incident involving the MT SIDR in the Strait of Hormuz arrived in the Philippines on Friday night, September 11.

According to news reports, their remains will be brought to their families in Laguna and Cebu. Representatives from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and the Department of Migrant Workers assisted with their arrival and supported the bereaved families.

OWWA continues to coordinate with the manning agency to ensure a dignified journey home and provide the assistance their families need.

Behind every seafarer is a family waiting for a safe homecoming. As these families grieve, may they find comfort in the people standing beside them. Honoring our overseas workers also means caring for the loved ones they leave behind.

Senator Pia Cayetano confirmed through a Facebook Live video on September 11 that she is in Singapore to support the Philippine Padel National Team at the APPT Grand Slam.

Cayetano said the trip had been scheduled for a long time and was not kept secret. She also criticized what she described as malicious reports surrounding her departure and that of her brother, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano.

According to multiple reports, immigration authorities confirmed that both senators had left the Philippines. Neither had a hold-departure order nor any record legally preventing them from traveling. Details about Alan Cayetano’s destination and purpose of travel have not been publicly disclosed.

Public officials are free to travel when no legal restriction exists, but clear and timely communication can prevent speculation. Transparency helps citizens separate verified information from rumors and protects public trust.

The MMDA has launched its Love Bus program, offering free rides through fully electric buses. The inauguration was led by First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, MMDA Chairman Don Artes, and local government officials in Pasig City on September 9.

According to multiple reports, the Love Bus network has four routes connecting key areas in Quezon City, Pasig, Mandaluyong, and Makati. The zero-emission buses are designed to provide commuters with another transport option while helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Free and cleaner public transportation can make daily travel easier for many people. Programs like this show how practical solutions can support commuters while also helping protect the environment.

According to multiple reports, the Philippines recorded higher scores in the 2025 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA).

The country scored 373 in Science, 371 in Mathematics, and 367 in Reading. These were increases of 17 points in Science, 16 points in Mathematics, and 20 points in Reading compared with the 2022 results.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. welcomed the improvement and said the government would continue strengthening support for students, teachers, and schools. PISA measures how well 15-year-old students apply their knowledge to real-life situations.

The gains are encouraging, but they do not mean that all learning gaps have been solved. Continued investment, better teaching support, and cooperation among families, schools, and communities remain important.

Every higher score represents the effort of students and teachers who continued moving forward despite challenges. Progress should inspire gratitude, but also greater commitment to ensure that every Filipino learner receives the quality education they deserve.

Lanao del Sur Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong has called for stronger political parties with stricter standards for choosing election candidates.

In the remarks shared, Adiong suggested that parties adopt internal rules against nominating politicians facing cases before the Sandiganbayan or matters involving the Commission on Audit (COA), even before a final decision.

His comments describe proposed party screening standards—not an existing nationwide ban. A party’s decision to withhold its nomination is different from legally disqualifying someone from running for office.

A pending case alone does not automatically disqualify a candidate. Section 12 of the Omnibus Election Code requires a final judgment for the criminal-conviction grounds it covers. An accusation should therefore not be treated as proof of guilt.

Filipinos deserve candidates whose records can withstand careful public scrutiny. Stronger standards can help build trust, but they should be clear, fair, and supported by evidence—protecting both the public’s right to accountable leadership and every person’s right to due process.

Around 4,000 Filipino runners gathered at the Quezon Memorial Circle on Sunday, September 6, despite the early morning rain, for the “Run for the West Philippine Sea.”

According to multiple reports, the event was organized by a civic group in partnership with the Philippine Navy. It aimed to raise public awareness and encourage national unity in protecting the country’s maritime rights and resources.

Cabinet Secretary Benhur Abalos joined as the guest of honor and ceremonial lead runner. He said protecting the West Philippine Sea is also about defending the livelihood of Filipino fisherfolk, the future of coastal communities, and the dignity of the nation.

The Philippine Navy also explained the importance of the area to the country’s food security and economy. Organizers plan to hold similar advocacy runs in other provinces and cities.

National issues are not protected by words alone. When citizens stay informed, stand together peacefully, and support the rule of law, they help protect not only the country’s territory but also the future of the next generation.

Catholic worshippers continued to attend Sunday Mass despite floodwater inside St. John the Baptist Parish Church in Barangay San Juan, Hagonoy, Bulacan. The Mass was led by Fr. Melchor Ignacio.

During his homily, Ignacio reportedly reminded the community that silence can allow problems to continue. He encouraged people to speak when change and proper action are needed.

According to multiple news reports, several areas in Hagonoy have faced prolonged flooding following heavy rain, the southwest monsoon, and high tides. The situation has renewed public concern about the condition and effectiveness of flood-control projects. Authorities have been urged to provide immediate help and lasting solutions.

The faith shown inside the flooded church is inspiring, but communities should not be expected to survive through resilience alone. Their voices deserve to be heard, and their long struggle should lead to honest action, responsible leadership, and real protection from future floods.
