TSOPR-048 If Ladrona’s first album opened with an audio excerpt warning of the “fear” that loomed in subsequent songs, this one skips the prelude with a cry of anguish right at the door. The wail of a cornered animal, ready for anything: “They will not end our rage,” can be heard toward the end, amid distortion and echo.
And in the years following the release of that EP, it’s not as if the world has improved—quite the opposite. That rage becomes more pertinent in seeking an outlet, cutting through the injustice, oppression, greed, war, and indifference that looms over us.
A revamped lineup gives the band new weight, and well-chosen samples continue to create a common thread between the tracks. More strategic intros and marching drums precede the D-Beat avalanche of each song.
Amid the fury, disappointment, and apparent hopelessness in the lyrics, there’s still room for a few flashes of humor, because what else is there to do when faced with such a bleak outlook than try to lighten the mood with some self-inflicted smack?
