I took a break from Instagram recently, oddly enough, it feels less addictive now that Instagram mostly shows accounts users don’t follow.
So, what have you been up to?
On my end, Yuk Baca #4 is on track! This edition will focus on emotions and mental well-being. I’ve read all your story submissions and have picked a winner! We’ll be reaching out to everyone individually soon. And if your story wasn’t about emotions, don’t worry—you might still be selected for a future edition.
In other news, I jumped on the BJJ bandwagon. Can’t say I love it yet—it still feels awkward to be in such close contact with strangers—but I do appreciate moving in a new way and being around women who own their strength.
I’ve been spending a lot of time alone and been reading more than ever. One book I really loved is Having and Being Had by Eula Biss—a must-read for anyone grappling with capitalism and the discomfort of privilege.
My parents are currently visiting, and we had a delayed Lunar New Year celebration at home, which may well be the last Vietnamese tradition I hold on to while living abroad. Something small to feel connected to my parents’ culture and pass that on to my children.
We also took a last-minute Tokyo trip and caught the earliest cherry blossoms and visited the , both magical in their own way! 🌸
And finally, as part of my research for Yuk Baca’s next edition, I read Atlas of the Heart by Brené Brown (which I recommend to anyone interested in exploring our inner world and the power of language). One simple yet profound definition of spirituality from the book stuck with me.
