Lontar Fruit is the fruit of the lontar palm, a tropical palm tree commonly found in parts of Indonesia, especially in dry regions like East Nusa Tenggara, Bali, and Madura. It is also locally known as siwalan.
When young, the fruit contains three translucent jelly-like seeds with a soft, refreshing texture and a mildly sweet taste. It is often served chilled as a natural thirst quencher in hot weather.
When fully ripe, the flesh turns yellow-orange and can be used in traditional desserts, snacks, or sweet drinks.
The lontar palm is highly valued in traditional communities, as almost every part of the tree can be used, from the fruit and sap to the leaves, which were historically used as writing material known as lontar manuscripts. Have you ever tried lontar fruit before? 👀🌴
