Coming up next from the basement, we welcome the latest addition to our roster of artists, Gasta, who’s been active in reviving Jakarta’s rave culture. Rooted in raw punk ethos since his teenage years, Gasta presents a journey that is anything but predictable. His sound weaves through leftfield rhythms, razor-sharp breaks, and mind-warping acid-drenched dub grooves, and still maintains to put a little emotive feelings yet still experimental towards the end. Gasta is one of those rare talents pushing boundaries, blending chaos with clarity, and bringing a refreshing intensity to the dancefloor.

This time, he crafted a sonic trip from the depths of the underground. Gasta delivers a heady blend of acidic grooves, cosmic overtones, and raw overdrive. Channeling his punk-rooted energy into a rave continuum that defies easy categorization, this mix zigzags through low-end hypnotics, leftfield breaks, and mind-altering dub textures. Expect ravey flashbacks, moments of euphoria, and experimental twists that tug at the emotional core.

Coming up from the basement this week, a Producer, DJ, and committed Engineer who runs a label and parties called Talking Machine. He started releasing music in 2015 and eventually extending his career path as a DJ in 2018. He has several releases on local labels such as Akamady Records, Dekadenz Records, and his own label Talking Machine. One of his notable track is ‘In The Shadows’ which was released on Ombra International.

In this mix, Arvin delivers an intense sonic journey through obscure textures and leftfield rhythms. Anchored by heavy acid influences and a brooding atmosphere, the set weaves unexpected turns with raw, expressive energy. It’s a trip tailored for ravers, equally suited for intimate indoor spaces or open air sessions. Rather than showcasing ego, Arvin channels his creativity with restraint, allowing the mix to breathe and unfold on its own terms. A solid transmission for those who use sound as a vehicle for freedom and disruption.

Peaces new debut EP, “Floor Number 8”. Consist of 3 tracks, crafted with big 80s drum sound, carefully selected fills and heavy synth work which had been Peaces’ signature sound.

This EP accompanied by 2 remixes by renowned producers/DJ, A-Tweed & Alvaro Cabana.

We are thrilled to announce our next edition for the edit series by dearest friend of ours, Gasta. Originating from a D.I.Y punk background, Gasta evolved as he ride into dance music. Started when he played a DJ set around 2017 at Up! Jakarta——before it turned to Slits.bar——where he discovered the sound that created who he is today. Acid, distortions, rhythm encounter, guitar licks and raw psychedelic textures in between particles.

As a producer, he contributed an original mix for Sliced Random 001 compilation, titled ‘Diaré’. He also brought several other releases such as remixes for Rayssa Dynta and Random Brothers and edits for Slits, Scrubs.
As of 2020, he independently formed Studiomaja, a sonic based art studio in Jakarta, along with Mojo Radio as the independent local radio.

“Celestial” by Gasta begins with a steady pulse, comes with a gentle invitation of weird strings sound that drifting round. Pulsating bass line that leads us deeper into the realm of euphoria, where the textures layered with hypnotic synths and a haunting vocals. As the melodic drones, tensions are rising, the edits finely blends into an immersive experience.

Coming up from the basement this week, a timeless music connoisseur, Kenya Bahana Sastropawiro, affectionately known as Kenya. Immersed in rhythmic instruments from an early age, she comes from a “grass-rooted” musical family. Joining the legendary Yogyakarta based collective, Energyroom, in the early 2018. The exploration of different dance floors since her childhood has honed her intuition and allowed her to create a diverse palette of personal grooves.

Her musical selections had a variety of styles, from every revolution with a slightly different rhythm to a powerful wide frequency range rhythmic beats, and pulsating bass lines to delicate melodic tones, where it could shake the ground with sub sonic frequencies while also representing the fragile side to it. The mix she crafted is a complete sensory experience, flowing in to the glitchy textures of sound and present a dynamic narrative. Through her exploration experimental techniques, her mix is blend deeply into genre fusion, pushing the boundaries to deliver a frankly temperamental and engaging emotional depth experience. It was her pure instinctive expression.

Coming Up From The Basement, we are pleased to welcome our new podcast series.

The core idea is to provide an expressive platform. A vessel for a personal story, experimentation of different styles and concepts. Defining music as a medium of complete sensory experience.

This week, we have Peaces, a music project by Rizki S. Djanegara, as a DJ/Producer born and bred in Jakarta (Indonesia) who were captivated by the sound of new wave, disco, rock, jazz and post-punk, he started off exploring his musical journey through his own collective in 2017.

His mix weaves through genres effortlessly, all while keeping a sharp narrative thread intact. At its heart, it pulses with electronic textures, layered with shadowy, atmospheric synths and eerie chords that surface midway, alongside acid elements that give the groove a sharp, hypnotic edge. Subtle hints of house prevent the rhythm from becoming monotous. The flow shifts and morphs, building intensity and groove with every rise and drop, always staying true to the underlying tale, while carrying a raw, unpolished edge that channels punk energy.

It was started in 2018 by three men with different backgrounds united by their passion to music and clothing. Consisting of Arvin Fajar who is a music producer and sound engineer, Putra Fadhil who is a DJ and Imam Buana who is a clothing designer. All of them are also musicians who have their own projects.
