No way 🤯
Following extensive discussions within the global gymnastics community, a 0.1 “smile bonus” across all MAG and WAG apparatus was officially announced today. Building on the successful implementation of the stick bonus in MAG, officials have expressed a desire to continue introducing initiatives that enhance both performance quality and spectator engagement.
The smile bonus aims to promote artistry, encourage more engaging routines, and improve action shots for greater publicity of the sport. It also reflects an effort to keep gymnastics fresh, dynamic, and evolving for modern audiences.
To receive the bonus, gymnasts must visibly smile for a minimum of 20 seconds during their routine. On vault, athletes are required to maintain a smile throughout the entire performance. A dedicated time judge will monitor smile duration, and the bonus will be eligible for inquiry.
This rule will come into effect on February 30th, 2027.
