As many of you know, severe thunderstorms have impacted a million or so lives in Texas and other parts of the southwest over the last week.
It is with great sadness, on Tuesday May 28, The Sequel was in Addison, Texas for scheduled maintenance when a tornado flipped the aircraft causing significant damage. Thankfully, no people (or animals) were injured in this accident. Our thoughts are with the greater Dallas community that is impacted by this storm, and for the hundreds of dogs and cats in shelters awaiting transportation to their new life.
At Dog Is My CoPilot, we work with over 200 animal shelters and rescues nationwide to help save pets from overcrowded shelters. Powered by national non-profit Petco Love, our flights provide life saving transportation to our partners who find each and every animal a loving home. Each of our aircrafts transports 3,500 pets to safety each year and we are working diligently to find a solution while this aircraft is grounded.
With every tragedy comes new strength. ππ
In the short term, we are connecting with other flight organizations (stay tuned for a lifesaving update!) to help fill the gaps of our scheduled flights. Meanwhile, our other airplane, βThe Big Dogβ will be wheels up every day supporting our partners. We will also be using βThe Pupβ, a smaller plane that Dr. Rork used when he founded Dog Is My CoPilot to fly the smaller dogs and kittens.
With an uptick in intake and a downward trend in adoptions, our nation's shelters and rescues are struggling. So we need you more than ever! ADOPT, FOSTER, VOLUNTEER and please continue to support animal rescue organizations. We have been so busy, but will keep everyone posted on our rescue flights over the next few weeks.
