In regards to firefighting operations at McClellan, these were taken during the Mosquito Fire in 2022.

The Mosquito Fire was California’s largest wildfire in 2022. The fire began on September 6 and burned 76,788 acres in Placer and El Dorado counties.

11,260 people were evacuated and damaged exceeded $181 million.

Firefighting aircraft flew out of McClellan, Redding, and Chico.

This is SOFIA - the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy. She retired to the Pima Air Museum in 2022.

Submission Sunday: The Wing Derringer by centerline.images

The Wing Derringer was designed in the 1960s by John Thorp to be a personal multi-engine aircraft.

It’s a small two-seat retract-gear aircraft powered by two 160hp engines. Its wingspan is four feet less than a Cessna 150, yet it boats a cabin wider than a Cessna 182.

It is capable of speeds up to 200 knots with a max altitude of 19,000 feet.

Unfortunately the Wing aircraft company suffered early financial trouble and only 12 Derringers were built.

Only four remain on the FAA’s aircraft registry.
