Astronomers in Australia detected a repeating radio signal from space that pulses every 18 minutes. This is unlike anything previously observed in known stars, pulsars, or cosmic objects. The signal remained stable and repeated for several weeks. The source of the signal lies thousands of light-years from Earth. Some researchers believe it could be a highly magnetized neutron star known as a magnetar, while others think it might represent a completely new kind of astronomical object.
