Today we’re going behind the scenes of Netflix’s Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega as the titular character herself, as well as Christina Ricci, the OG Wednesday Addams. This show is already a piece of iconic media in the making with the legendary Tim Burton behind the lens. Tim Burton designed the character with sketches! He would bring different sketches of characters and monsters to the writer’s room and everyone would have a bit of input on what the characters would look like. Apparently, it was a major collaborative process all around. Jenna Ortega was extremely dedicated to perfecting her role as Wednesday and put in the long hours to show it! She was easily working twelve hours a day on set alone – not even counting her commute or the time she was in hair and makeup. She also learned to play the cello and how to fence specifically so she could perform her own stunts. She spent a non-stop eight months working! There are also some very particular mannerisms that only super keen eyes would be able to see. Like, did you know that Wednesday never blinks? She also has incredible posture and keeps her arms and hands pretty stationary most of the time. Jenna brought a lot of subtlety and care into the portrayal of this character. This show was also filmed in Romania, which brought a unique, Eastern European vibe to the show that we don’t often get to see in media. What was your favorite Wednesday moment?
