A small, pressurized drip (a small amount of water entering but "shooting") into a catfish pond actually has many benefits when used correctly. This isn't just about adding water, but can be a "natural aid" in maintaining pond quality:
1. Increases dissolved oxygen. The pressurized water breaks the water's surface, aiding the natural aeration process.
The result: more active catfish, increased appetite, and less stress.
2. Reduces toxins (ammonia & nitrite). A small, continuous drip helps dilute waste and leftover feed.
This allows for more controlled levels of toxins like ammonia without the need for frequent complete draining.
3. Maintains a more stable water temperature. The gradual addition of new water prevents the temperature from rising drastically, especially during the day.
This makes the catfish more comfortable and less prone to "floating." 4. Create a light current in the pond. Water pressure creates a small current → this helps:
Waste doesn't accumulate in one spot
Catfish move more actively (good for growth)
5. Prevents water odor quickly. Because of circulation and dilution, pond water doesn't quickly "rot" or become thick.
6. Reduces the risk of disease. Constantly refreshing water, even a small amount, can suppress the growth of harmful bacteria,
Especially diseases caused by dirty water.
Tips for maximum effectiveness:
👉Direct the flow to one spot (to create a current)
👉Don't make it too big → just small but steady
👉Combine with a bottom drain (pipe) to allow waste to drain out
